Synopsis
Early bird gets the worm! Victory is as simple as that.
Setsuna Tokage to her teammates in "Early Bird!"

This article is about the student from Class 1-B. For the former Instant Villain, see Rapt Tokage.

Setsuna Tokage ( () (かげ) (せつ) () Tokage Setsuna?), also known as Lizardy (リザーディ Rizādi?),[1] is a student in Class 1-B at U.A. High School, where she got in through recommendations,[2] and is training there to become a Pro Hero.

Appearance[]

Setsuna is a young girl of average height with surprisingly large, upturned, dusky green eyes, long lower eyelashes, and notably long and pointed teeth. Her hair is a dark moss green, collectively reaching just below her shoulders aside from a short clump that hangs in the center of her forehead, and it grows wavier and thinner the lower it gets.

Her hero costume consists of a purple, scaly mask over her eyes, a simple bodysuit with a matching design, and black knee-high boots. Setsuna wears black fingerless gloves with purple, scaly knuckle guards and pale orange, three-piece wrist-guards and a black belt around her waist with what looks to be a yellow jewel embedded into the center.

Personality[]

Setsuna is described as chatty, confident, extraordinarily provocative, and talkative. She is one of the few students in Class 1-B who does not bear any apparent hatred to Class 1-A.

As shown in the Joint Training Battle, Setsuna is a wily and thoughtful girl with great aptitudes for leadership and cooperation. She is careful, concerned, and attentive. Her attitude is different in combat and non-combat situations, having a more severe and dirty disposition amid battle.[2] However, Setsuna underestimates her foes, as she expects Katsuki to go off on his own but sees him lead his team effectively and win.

Setsuna is reliable; her teammates believe in her and don't hesitate to follow her. She has a considerable influence on her classmates, which implies that she has proven several times that she is trustworthy and responsible. Because of her strong personality and skills, Setsuna has total confidence in herself and her potential. She doesn't doubt or hesitate, appearing to be very strong-willed.[3]

Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: Setsuna is a recommended student, implying she has a high skill level. Her classmates greatly respect her abilities and have said that Setsuna is her class's most skilled and talented student. Setsuna is also considered a polyvalent combatant, efficient, and sharp at doing several things simultaneously. Her Quirk, Lizard Tail Splitter, can be used for spying (by separating parts of her eyes to get multiple viewpoints) and long-range combat, making her pivotal for tracking and espionage missions. Setsuna's autonomous body parts themselves are said to be weak but are challenging to defend against due to being small targets. Setsuna is a highly capable, confident, and creative individual who has been established as one of Class 1-B's elites and one of the most gifted students of her generation.

Neito Monoma stated that Setsuna has the potential to defeat Katsuki Bakugo, one of the most powerful students in Class 1-A, because her Quirk renders her invulnerable while she is split apart. But in the penultimate round of the Joint Training Battle, she was defeated by the explosive student, disproving Neito's claims, albeit still retaining her rank as one of the strongest students in Class 1-B. Her abilities eventually garnered the attention of the Magic Hero: Majestic, allowing Setsuna to intern under the (now deceased) top-grade Pro Hero and improve her predictive skills and ability to act efficiently.

Keen Intellect: Setsuna possesses an excellent intellect and an impressive strategic mind. During her fight against Katsuki's team, she has shown to be foresighted, strategic, and highly observant. Setsuna devised a multi-step plan to defeat Katsuki’s team that would have branching strategies to trap them no matter their actions. She predicted the approach they would take advantage of their strengths and formation. She wanted to exploit the skills of her opponents for her own sake. Setsuna is wily, reactive, a quick thinker with substantial creativity, and tries to be as unpredictable as possible. She uses her Quirk very tactically to distract her enemies or to have perfect control of the area. Her tactical skills and sense of observation are the best in her class. She takes all factors into account to try to dominate the situation by being faster at organization and preparation.

However, Setsuna's significant reliance on detail and organization requires improvement in improvisation and adaptability. When the initial attack against Katsuki's team failed to capture any of them, she could not adapt to the changing circumstances and their strong comeback, which was a factor in her team's defeat.

  • Leadership Skills: Setsuna seems to be an excellent leader who proved capable of leading others during fights and critical situations.

Quirk[]

Lizard Tail Splitter

Setsuna's body split into pieces.

Lizard Tail Splitter (トカゲのしっぽ () Tokage no Shippokiri?):[4] Setsuna's Quirk allows her to split up her body into as many as 50 pieces.[3] She can remotely make every one of these pieces move freely and levitate through the air at high speeds. Setsuna's pieces can also regenerate if destroyed or otherwise become unusable.

Her pieces will stop moving if they are separated for too long, in which case they will regenerate. If Setsuna reattaches the parts before they go still, their time limit will reset.

The regeneration ability of her Quirk is very exhausting for Setsuna, so she prefers to recall as many of her body parts as possible to conserve her energy.

Trivia[]

  • Setsuna's surname contains the kanji for "take" ( to?) and "shadow" ( kage?), while her given name contains the kanji for "cut" ( setsu?) and a character that used to mean "apple tree" ( na?), but is now more commonly read as "what" or used in names when something needs to be read as "na".
    • Her surname is homophonous with the Japanese word for "lizard" (蜥蜴?).
    • She shares her surname with former Instant Villain, Rapt Tokage; however, both surnames are composed of different characters and thus, have different spellings.
  • Setsuna likes dinosaurs.[1]
  • Setsuna's Japanese voice actress, Aoi Yūki, also voices Tsuyu Asui and Pony Tsunotori (as of Season 5).
  • Setsuna is noted to have been a gyaru in her middle school days.[5]
