Chapter 395

Built Upon the Joy of Others (幸 (しあわ) せの上 (うえ) に, Shiawase no Ue ni^?) is the three hundred and ninety-fifth chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.

Summary[]

The Double swarm continues to evaporate over its surrounding area and the city, revealing the surviving Endeavor, Todoroki Family, Tenya Ida, and Hawks. After receiving some knife slices from a Himiko Double, Hawks tells her it's fair because Twice really was a decent guy as it disappears.

Himiko thinks about how she thought she wielded her knife to become the people she loves, but ended up using it with anger and hatred to make the world easier to live in. She stands above the barely conscious Ochaco when her body starts to ache, as a result of using Transform to access another's Quirk. She also realizes that Ochaco is continuing to use Zero Gravity to ensure all the Heroes caught up in its effects have a safe landing, knowing in the end she'll never let anyone down hard.

Ochaco lies there unable to move, having lost too much blood as her brain starts to disconnect with her body, but is still trying everything she can to stay awake. Himiko looks on at all the unconscious Heroes in the vicinity, as Ochaco's words continue to echo in her head. She tells her she lost too much blood because she kept moving even after she stabbed her. She continues that the League of Villains want to destroy everything, and knows that the new world they create will be much easier for her to live in.

However, she swallows some of Ochaco's blood, transforming into her, telling her how happy her words made her, and even though she said it was a battle of survival, she can't stand the thought of a world without her. Pulling out her blood disposal gear, she inserts it into her arm and Ochaco's, saying that to prove her feelings are genuine, she will give her all of her blood. Ochaco starts to breathe again after receiving some blood, with Himiko explaining when she was on the brink of death, Twice saved her by doing the same thing, but since his Quirk is gone now, she transformed into her because by sharing the same Quirk, they also share the same blood.

Ochaco tries to speak for her to stop, knowing if she does this she will die, but Himiko asks if she really intended on visiting her in prison and giving her blood until she died. She says she could've easily just captured the Villain and eliminated the freaks of the world, doing the right thing as a hero, and yet still spared a thought for someone like her, even after she hurt all of her friends and herself, calling her weird with tears in her eyes.

Ochaco responds back with the same sentiment, but Himiko continues that she'll live and love as she pleases, to not let her capture her, just how she doesn't want her to get away, sincerely apologizing for stabbing and yelling at her. She says how Dabi burned down her childhood home for her, how it was a normal home full of horrible things that he made go away for her. Doing that made her happy, but the bad stuff was still there inside her heart, and while Ochaco didn't make it go away, when she reached out and touched her, her heart felt so light like it could float away.

Himiko concludes by thanking Ochaco for everything and for making her so happy. She thinks about how she wanted to become other people so badly, how she drank their blood in fits of jealously and attraction, wondering if she had known this feeling sooner, despite how much she wanted to drain their blood, maybe she would want to give her blood too. If she had experienced that sort of love, maybe she would have had an easier time living in the world. Ochaco calls out to Himiko, as the two girls lie on the ground together, with Himiko thinking how she lives and loves how she pleases, and that's how she made her way in life: as a normal girl with the cutest smile in the world.

• Ochaco is on the verge of death as a result of her significant loss of blood and serious injuries while continuing to use her Quirk to save everyone.
  • To save her life, Himiko transforms into Ochaco and gives her a blood transfusion, even at the cost of her own life.
• Himiko accepts her own feelings and her fate, thanking Ochaco for making her happy, as the two embrace with tears in their eyes, and Toga passes away.
