The Eyes Tell All!! ( (ゆめ) (ゆめ) !! GANRIKI (がんりき) Yumeyume!! GANRIKI?) is the four hundred and eighth chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.

Summary[]

Two months after Yoichi escaped from All For One, the Villain confronts his brother and the resistance in the sewers and uses a Spatial Distortion Meta Ability to kill him, leaving nothing behind but his left hand. All For One, who named his brother "Yoichi" using the kanji for "bestow" and "one" because he was his first possession, stared down the man who had stolen his property, Kudo, as he's about to escape. An emotional Kudo, covered in Yoichi's blood, stares into All For One's thin, clouded eyes, which didn't reflect anything and showed no sense of feeling.

Later, All For One examines Yoichi's hand, realizing that the Meta Ability he forcibly gave to him was gone, which has never happened before. He had believed that his brother didn't have a Meta Ability and he unconsciously stole it when they were babies, but through examination found out that he actually had a Factor, but it was so insignificant and nonfunctioning that his own power didn't even recognize it as a Meta Ability. He thinks the Factor never quite took form, possibly due to malnourishment, and wonders if it somehow activated itself.

Elsewhere, Kudo is being examined by his resistance partner, Bruce, after the former told him his body had been feeling off since their last encounter with All For One. After confirming he didn't get touched by All For One, Bruce reveals that Kudo's body now has two Factors inside him, his original one, plus one that he calls an "unformed dud". Kudo realizes now that Yoichi's will lives inside him. Meanwhile, All For One comes to the conclusion that the Meta Ability he granted Yoichi was essentially absorbed by Yoichi's own to make up for what it lacked, and also meaning that he still lives on. The two each recall different conversations from Yoichi, where while he was glad for him keeping him alive, he voiced his disappointment in his brother only able to see other humans as playthings and wishing he had some compassion for others, since the ability to both give and take could have been the kindest power the world's ever known.

All For One through the years

All For One on his never-ending quest for One For All.

Over the next decades, All For One began his quest to reclaim Yoichi, now "One For All". He killed Kudo, claiming to himself his "crocodile tears" were just to cause confusion, as everything he loathed and coveted he manipulated and corrupted to make all his own. He eventually also fought and killed Bruce, started a cult where he would meet one Kyudai Garaki, fought Daigoro Banjo and En, failing both times to steal One For All, before the Quirk ended up in Nana Shimura's hands. Throughout all this, he thinks about how Yoichi never behaved as he wished, as all he wants is to make him his, doing all he can to hunt and pursue him, yet he slips through his grasp each time. This culminated in his supposed final battle with All Might, and his near death, before being saved by Kyudai.

In the present, All For One screams out to Dynamight while blaming Kudo for everything, thinking about how he completely ended his bloodline, even eliminating every woman and child he'd been close to, as well as knowing if his blood ran through his veins, he would've sensed it during their first encounter during the Kamino Incident. He then realizes that it's all in the eyes, how back then his eyes didn't have the same look to them, convinced that now a willful resolve resembling Kudo's has crossed time and space, all just to thwart him.

Omni-Factor Unleash

By summoning all of the Quirks he holds, All For One seeks to claim victory.

He thinks about how Warping Dynamight away won't work because the only available warp points are All Might and Tomura who are nearby, and also he can't afford to drag out the battle any longer before he shrinks away further, especially since conflict with Tomura is inevitable since he already rejected him once. He initially thinks he must save his remaining strength to succeed in the transfer, but instead decides that he will kill Dynamight, reach his goal, and execute the transfer all in one move. In the vestige world, Yoichi senses All For One's presence, as the Villain releases "Omni-Factor Unleash: All For One Goal", activating every single Quirk and Quirk Factor in his body. As he is about to blast forward and decimate everything in his path, the nearby Edgeshot and All Might realize he intends to use everything to propel him forward and claim victory in a single burst, even though it will revert him back to a baby. All Might yells for Dynamight to dodge, while the young hero comments to himself how he could hope to beat that.

Author's Comment[]

There was a kanji error under the cover in the Japanese version of volume 39. Not the best, but oh well.
