Chapter 387

Congealing (煮 (に) 凝 (こご) り, Nikogori^?) is the three hundred and eighty-seventh chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.

Summary[]

In a prison lockup, Geten speaks to his neighbor, Mr. Compress, about how Himura blood runs thick. He explains how in the past, the Himuras were village leaders that maintained their wealth and pride by creating branch families, however the rise of Meta Abilities led to their downfall, as they didn't want to dilute their bloodline. Compress remarks what Spinner would say hearing about a "snobbish bloodline prejudiced against heteromorphs".

Geten continues that this resulted in many marriages between the branch families and their distant relatives, however by insulating themselves it led to the Himura clan dwindling overtime. Once the head of the family started selling off the children into marriages, it marked the end of the line, resulting in the remaining families scattering, with Geten revealing he was one of them until Re-Destro recruited him. He states how Meta Abilities grow more complex with each generation, with new powers lying dormant in the user's body, while people's hearts never managed to evolve, wondering what changes they will witness. He concludes asking Compress if he heard anything from the Police Force or Heroes, since there's nothing left to do but kill time until the War is over.

Meanwhile, approximately 800 meters from the Gunga Mountain Villa Ruins, Endeavor struggles with his chase with Dabi, learning from the Counter-Force about his impending explosion. He is aware of not only the nearby evacuation blocks, but also the other Heroes still fighting Himiko's Doubles that are still in range. The injuries Endeavor took from fighting All For One are also starting to slow him down, meaning he is unable to lure Dabi away any further.

The combusting Dabi manically screams out for his dad to "Watch me!", causing Endeavor to see the young Toya in his eyes, as he unleashes a devastating Vanishing Fist that completely envelops Endeavor. Dabi grabs ahold of him as Endeavor desperately tries to convince his son to put our his flames and he doesn't want to watch him die, but Dabi continues to repeat the same things over and over with his mind long gone. Endeavor recognizes the fire as hot enough to burn him, wondering how it is possible he can still hold himself together after all that.

He reaches into Dabi's heart, and thinks about how when someone has a near-death experience, it may cause their Quirk to awaken, while on the other hand, some people can summon an absurd power in a crisis, but unlike a Quirk Awakening, this power only manifests when they are truly at death's door. Within Dabi's Phosphor, Endeavor recognizes Rei's Quirk, realizing Dabi has manifested ice within his Quirk.

As his life flashes before his eyes, Endeavor looks at Dabi, and says he takes full responsibility, believing he had to bear the burden and stay alive to atone for what he's done, but now he recognizes that Dabi's been watching him all this time, while he couldn't be there to watch him. He declares he can't let him die alone, but also won't let anyone else get caught up in their tragedy. grabbing ahold of him, and preparing to use his firepower to propel the both of them into the sky, to explode together. However before he can get too far, as Dabi's body continues to crack, Rei appears before the two of them, using her ice to stop them.
