Chapter 417

Shimura (志 (し) 村 (むら) , Shimura^?) is the four hundred and seventeenth chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.

Summary[]

Deku breaks into Tomura's massive clump of fingers, sending reverberations that cause everyone watching the broadcast to react confusingly. After executing his punch, nearly destroying Tomura's soul of lead, Nana looks around the mindscape to see the vestiges of Yoichi, Bruce, Daigoro, and All Might gone, realizing she was the only one who got repelled. Remembering Tomura's words about hating her too, as well as Kotaro crying for her not to leave, she realizes it's not because he hates her, but it's her own weakness to blame.

Izuku stands in front of the Shimura Family home, but just as he is about to ring the doorbell, a voice speaks through him, asking if he learns more and exposes his past to the light if that will change anything. He realizes that the voice is him through Tomura's eyes, using it to communicate, and responds that he doesn't know, but can't let this end without finding out. The voice tells him to die instead, and Izuku declares he will let him in.

Suddenly a car nearly runs Izuku over, just grazing his backpack, surprising him that he can interfere with the world. Nana appears and explains that they're deep in Tomura's subconscious, and as a successor himself, his thoughts take solid form and can affect each other physically. She apologizes for being the only one to get repelled, but Izuku says he's glad she's still there with him. She continues to explain how this place is Tomura's core and his origin, where he's at his most delicate and fragile, so Izuku will have to reach out and strike at that origin directly.

Izuku is about to charge into the door, only to suddenly be pinned down by Stain, saying that's why he's about to die. He then morphs into Re-Destro, asking what burdens he bears and what he seeks to build. He finally turns into Overhaul, asking if he has a plan, which Izuku confidently says no and to get out of his way. Pushing past the visage and opening the door, he's faced with the picture of Nana and Kotaro that Hana showed Tenko, as that memory plays, shocking Nana and Izuku.

They enter the house where they witness Kotaro slapping a silhouetted Tenko, stunning the both of them. Izuku tries to rush toward Tenko, but is blocked by a force field, worried that he's being rejected again despite being so close. Nana breaks down in tears as she hears Kotaro call her a monster that abandoned her child, realizing he didn't keep the photo because he wanted to, but because it served as a constant reminder of what she had done and how it hurt him so much that he couldn't move on from it. As he states that Heroes are just people who hurt their own families to help strangers, Nana thinks about all that time he couldn't bear to abandon it, and the scars she inflicted on him got passed down to Tomura, wondering if she had taken down All For One and returned to him.

Apologizing to Kotaro for being a weak mother, Izuku calls out to Nana and the both of them lunge at the Shimuras, Nana stopping Kotaro and Izuku touching Tenko. Finally destroying the leaden soul, Nana apologizes to Kotaro for not making it back home to him, and to Tenko saying she's to blame, as she fades away. Tenko regains his physical appearance, as Izuku looks down at him cradling his dog Mon, in the moments just as his Decay is awakened.

  • Yoichi, Bruce, Daigoro, and All Might's vestiges are successfully transferred to destroy most of the leaden soul, leaving Nana the only one left after being pushed back due to her regrets over Kotaro.
• Izuku encounters several memories of Tomura's adversaries, until he and Nana discover the young Tenko being beaten by Kotaro.
  • Nana breaks down, realizing the true extent of the pain she left her son in and how that directly impacted Tomura.
• Izuku and Nana successfully reach the both of them, with Nana apologizing to her son and grandson as she is transferred, completely destroying the leaden core.
