Episode 117

Inheritance (継承, Keishō^?) is the one hundred and seventeenth episode of the My Hero Academia anime and the fourth episode of the sixth season.

Summary[]

Tsukuyomi thinks about his mentor, Hawks, and how his Quirk, Fierce Wings, allows him to control the feathers on his back to freely fly, use them as weapons, aid in evacuation, and sense vibrations through them; his flight also becomes more unstable the more feathers he loses, but they regrow within a few days. Among most Pro Heroes, his Quirk is a jack of all trades in regards to speed, power, precision, and information gathering, however, he recalls him mentioning what his main weakness is: fire, due to how easily his wings can burn up, and his only counter is to defeat the enemy before they can use it.

At this time, the U.A. students are being carried by Fat Gum, as a "Fataxi", back to the rear guard using his Quirk. They wonder if it is okay to leave so soon as they can still fight, but Fat Gum says they got what they needed out of them with their wide-range attacks to divide the Paranormal Liberation Front soldiers, and with the Pros now focusing on enclosing the space, said wide-range attacks could have potential casualties. As he says to leave the rest to them, they notice Blueflames erupting out of the Villa, and a figure blasting out of it, which Tsukuyomi recognizes as Hawks.

In the aftermath of Twice's death, Dabi lambasts Hawks for murdering him, overpowering him with his fire and burning up his remaining feathers. Stepping on him, Dabi asks how he could have killed him, but Hawks just stares up to see Dabi eerily grinning, asking how that could be the face of someone whose friend just died. Dabi simply states that his tear glands have burned up so he can't cry, and with Twice's Double Quirk, it could've made his dream a reality, so that's why he's sad.

Hawks tells Dabi he looked into the backgrounds of the League of Villains, but found nothing in regards to Dabi and Tomura Shigaraki, wondering how he was able to know his real name. He recalls back to when he was first brought in by the Hero Public Safety Commission, telling him he will say goodbye to his name "Keigo" so that he may become a special hero. The young Keigo is willing to go along with the program, looking at his Endeavor doll and asking if he will be able to become a Hero who beats up the bad guys like him, which they say he will.

In response to Hawks demanding to know who Dabi is, he tells him, stunning the Winged Hero into silence. He declares that even more than Twice or the League, he should've been the one most on his radar. He never cared about Tomura or the League from the beginning, only about being able to use his single obsession to change the world. He declares that there are no such thing as real heroes, and he will kill the fakes as the one to carry out Stain's will. Hawks fearly recalls back to the words and proclamations of the Hero Killer, just as Dabi prepares to finish Hawks off, who tells him he doesn't care whether he lives or dies. Meanwhile, the Liberation soldiers in the underground assembly hall wait for the Heroes to arrive, while Gigantomachia continues to stare at his radio for a response.

At the Police HQ, they report in on Team Edgeshot having successfully closed off the Villa's escape routes, Team Endeavor engaging the Nomu at the Hospital, and Mirko's continued battle with the High-Ends in the research lab. Endeavor rushes over to assist Mirko when he comes across Crust still dealing with the chubby Nomu, who has been unable to make him budge due to his Super Regeneration. Eraser Head then catches up, using Erasure to stop the Quirk. Crust releases more of his Shields to push it back, and Endeavor goes at it with a Flashfire Fist: Jet Burn, as Crust tells him to leave it to them and go to help Mirko.

Meanwhile, Mirko continues her battle against the other three High-Ends, as they remain at a stalemate with each evading the other's attacks. Mirko is aware that she isn't getting weaker, but what is actually happening is the High-Ends have started to awaken and are reaching their full power and capabilities. Knowing there's no other option, she rushes as fast as she can past the High-Ends toward her main goal, stopping the Doctor and Tomura. One of them commands her not to escape, as the other two High-Ends grab her by the hair and leg, but she simply rips them away and continues running, even despite the pain. She thinks to herself that if she is going to die, it'll be after she has accomplished her goal.

Mirko reaches Tomura's capsule, with Kyudai crying out in fear, as she is about to smash it with her leg, but is suddenly stopped by the elongated Nomu, stabbing its antennae into her leg and preparing to pull her back. At this moment, Endeavor manages to overpower the chubby Nomu, breezing past the other High-Ends, and pushing the elongated one down, giving Mirko the chance to rip herself out of the grasp, ready to slam into the containment pod. Present Mic further attacks the High-Ends with his Voice, and Eraser Head calls out to Endeavor to finish it, which he attempts to with his flaming fist. As Mirko pushes herself, she thinks about how the moment she saw Tomura, she instinctively knew, thanks to her rabbit instinct, that he absolutely cannot be released, hitting her leg on the pod.

Evading the incoming Heroes, Woman realizes she can't use her Quirks anymore and analyzes her opponents, recognizing the Voice, Shield, Laser, Physical Enhancement, and Saber users, and figuring Erasure to be the cause. Using her brainpower, she is quickly able to determine that his eyes are what inactivates the Quirks, due to his goggles hiding them, and that she just needs to evade his line of sight. X-Less tries to use his Lasers at her, but she is effortlessly able to dodge and recover from every attack. Regaining her Quirks, Woman unleashes an onslaught of blasts on the battlefield, forcing the Heroes to defend themselves.

The High-End Endeavor is holding down is able to use this to its advantage, reactivating its Quirk to pierce Mirko's leg and arm once again to pull her away. With as much force as she can muster, Mirko unleashes her Luna Arc, successfully destroying Tomura's capsule, as she is dragged away by the Nomu. As water leaks out from the pod, and the computer system destroyed at 75% completion, Kyudai laments the failure.

Endeavor manages to catch Mirko, seeing the damage to her body, and quickly starts cauterizing her wounds, telling her he still owes her for what happened in Kyushu and now owes her again, just as Woman confronts the two of them. As the other Heroes keep the other High-Ends busy, Mirko weakly is able to report in that Tomura is in a capsule like the Nomu were, that they are activated when hit with electricity, and that he must not be awakened at all costs. Eraser Head is aware that reinforcements will be there in seconds, but that is still a long time for them to fight back on their own, and he can't risk undoing his Erasure on the two High-Ends to help them. He tells Present Mic and X-Less to go on ahead and stop the Doctor, while he and Crust stay behind.

Kyudai looks upon the damage and realizes that despite it being destroyed, the data is still intact, so he needs to activate Tomura before things get worse. He doesn't want to awaken his and All For One's dream unfinished, but figures he has no choice, ready to awaken him. Before he can, however, Present Mic unleashes his Voice Quirk, completely destroying the containment pod and all the accompanying equipment, as Tomura's lifeless body collapses on the floor. Rushing toward the mad Doctor, Present Mic thinks back to right before the raid when Eraser Head told him that he would go if he went too and thinking about Oboro, he attacks him with a DJ Punch, confirming him to be the real deal, and declaring it's for making his friend cry.

X-Less checks to see Tomura's pulse has stopped, with the Doctor stating he was put in suspended animation to reduce burden on the body during the transfer. He proceeds to cry out that his and the Demon Lord's dream is over, while Mic forcefully takes him back with him so that he can command the Nomu to stop fighting. He tells X-Less to look over Tomura, just as the hero notices a mysterious machine tucked away in the corner.

Kyudai proceeds to ramble about how seventy years ago he created the Quirk Singularity theory, but it was discarded and was ridiculed over it, with no one wanting to think about something that hinted at their future demise. Present Mic notes that the one who developed said theory went missing and supposedly died, and would be over 120 years today, realizing it is him. He continues that All For One was the only one who reached out to him in his time of need, who he considered a god in human form. He explains his Quirk, Life Force, lets someone live twice as long as a normal person, in exchange for athletic ability, and that he offered it up to All For One, creating a duplicate which currently resides within him. He then calls him "Kurogiri's friend", admitting that back then, their intention was to claim Erasure. Present Mic can only think about how absolutely disgusted he is by the man and how truly revolting he is.

Meanwhile, Tomura finds himself in a dreamscape of crumbling buildings and hands. He sees visions of his sister Hana, apologizing for showing him the picture of their grandmother and telling their dad, which he says he doesn't care about anymore. He then sees a vision of his mother, asking if he still wants to be a hero, as he reverts back to Tenko, telling her he's fine now. His father then appears, yelling at him and sticking his hand toward him, which Tomura gleefully destroys with his Decay.

He then sees a visage of All For One, who Tomura says looks like Kurogiri now, beckoning him into the darkness. As Kyudai reveals, anticipating his defeat, All For One left everything to his successor, keeping a duplicate of his own Quirk for himself, and passing on the original to Tomura. Before he can enter, Tomura is stopped by his family members, each grabbing a part of his body, while his father emerges from within All For One grabbing his face. Nana Shimura then appears, grabbing his head and telling him not to forget, but Tomura decays them all away, reiterating for them not to reject him anymore, entering All For One. In the real world, a spark of electricity jolts Tomura, awakening him.
