"The Princess and the Jedi" is the first part of the ninth episode of the animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. It was released on Disney+ on August 2, 2023.[1][3]

Official description[]

Nash and the young Jedi transport a princess.

Plot summary[]

A royal passenger[]

The episode opens with Nash Durango and RJ-83 scrubbing the Crimson Firehawk. She is joined by Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs who had responded to her frantic call for help. Durango explains that she is picking up a passenger and that everything has to be perfect. When Brightstar asks what is so special about this passenger, Durango explains that her passenger is a princess whose ship broke down while she was getting a present for her father on Tenoo. However, she is nervous because her last royal passengers wanted everything to be perfect, but getting everything perfect wasn't Nash's thing.

Durango was hoping Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs could help since the Jedi work with important people all the time. Brightstar says that he and his friends will look after the princess while Durango takes care of the flying. Durango then piloted the Crimson Firehawk to a landing pad where Princess Inaya was waiting with her droid, PD-4. Inaya had traveled to Tenoo to pick up a present for her father, which turns out to be a chest shaped liked a building.

A nervous Durango introduces herself and her Jedi friends to Inaya, who asks if Jedi typically accompany dignitaries. Brightstar explains that they are just helping a friend today and introduces himself and his fellow Jedi Initiates. PD-4 reassures Inaya that the Jedi will guarantee their safety before ushering her aboard the Firehawk. Aboard the ship, Durango attempts to flatter her passenger, but Inaya is too modest. Unknown to the group, they are being watched by the pirate Taborr Val Dorn.

Trouble with Taborr[]

Aboard the Firehawk, Brightstar and his friends offer to look after Inaya's gift. Inside the cockpit, Inaya praises Durango's modifications to the console and the ship's smooth flying. Inaya also admires Durango, whom she describes as a kid her age who is able to fly her own ship around the galaxy. When Solay asks if she is a pilot, Inaya talks about her love for flying and working on ships but says that she doesn't like people doing everything for her as a princess because it takes the fun out of life. Durango admits she never thought about it like that.

They are about to jump to hyperspace when Val Dorn shows up in his starship Iron Talon. Over the intercom, Val Dorn says that he wants the gift Princess Inaya had obtained for her father. Brightstar shuts off the intercom and Solay convinces Durango to try and outrun Val Dorn's ship. Durango and RJ take the Firehawk down above the forests of Tenoo. However, the Iron Talon fires back and manages to disable the Firehawk's shields and lateral controls. Durango manages to crash-land the ship atop a Tenoo tree near a waterfall. However, Taborr's gang land their ship nearby.

Crash landing[]

Durango tells her team they need to repair the Firehawk fast. She tells RJ to repair the controls while she deals with the thruster circuits. When Solay asks what she can do, Durango tells her and Brightstar to transfer all power units to the main thruster. Durango enlists Nub's help and ignores Inaya, who offers to help. Nubs has trouble finding the flexscope in the tool kit but Inaya finds it easily. As Durango repairs the thruster circuits, Inaya helps pass her the hydrospanner. Inaya also advised Nash that the blast may have disconnected the power couplings, but Nash doesn't listen. When Inaya asks whether her father's present is safe, Durango is too preoccupied and says that she and her friends promised to take care of everything.

While Durango struggles with the repairs, Inaya volunteers to help. Inaya hears EB-3 telling Pord to give him a hand. Inaya heads to the corridor but finds that Taborr's gang have stolen the present. She pursues them aboard the Iron Talon. Nubs, who is in the cockpit, alerts his fellow Jedi younglings and Durango. Before they can join Inaya aboard the Iron Talon, Taborr's gang take off in their ship. Solay realizes that Val Dorn must have stolen the present and Inaya went to get it back. Durango is frustrated that they can't rescue her because the Firehawk is broken.

Recovering the stolen present[]

However, Inaya contacts her friends via comlink and tells them that she is alright. Using her mechanical skills, Inaya overrides the Iron Talon's controls, causing Val Dorn to lose control over his ship and crash near near the Firehawk. Inaya also opens the Iron Talon's gangplank. The younglings board the Iron Talon to get the gift and rescue Inaya while Nash and RJ focus on fixing their ship. Inside the Iron Talon, Inaya tells Solay and her friends that she took Taborr's ship down by overriding its controls.

Inaya manages to open the secondary door leading to the cockpit, where she believes her gift is being held. Inside the Iron Talon's cockpit, Brightstar tries to use the Force to grab the present but EB-3 moves his leg and hits the package, alerting Taborr and the gang to the Jedi's presence. With his presence discovered, Brightstar snatches the stolen present and flees down a ladder before Taborr's gang can catch him.

Val Dorn demands the return of the stolen present but Brightstar says it belongs to Princess Inaya. Taborr jumps down the ladder and attacks them with his electrostaff. The Jedi draw their lightsabers while Pord and EB-3 fetch their vibroblades. Brightstar and Nubs engage Val Dorn in a brief lightsaber duel. When Brightstar passes Solay the present, Val Dorn orders his associates to retrieve it. Pord attempts to recover the present but EB-3 hurls his weapon at Solay. However, the weapon boomerangs back to him, and EB-3 is forced to dodge his own vibroblade. Pord charges at Solay but the Jedi tricks her into crashing into several crates.

Inaya recovers her present. EB-3 charges at her, but Solay trips the droid. While Val Dorns drives the Jedi towards the gangplank, Inaya sets the gangplank to close and damages the door control. She and the Jedi manage to jump out before the gangplank closes, locking Val Dorn and his gang inside their ship.

New friends[]

When they return to the Crimson Firehawk, Durango had already fixed the damaged starship. Durango admits that Inaya was right for suggesting that the blast had disconnected power couplings. Durango apologizes for not listening since she assumed that Inaya wasn't a good mechanic because she was a princess. Inaya says it is alright because she loves starships even though she is a princess. Durango quips that she will be better prepared for surprises in the future.

Nash then asks if Inaya would like to fly the ship, to which Inaya says she would love to. They then head to Inaya's father's party. When they arrive at the celebration, Inaya asks Brightstar and his Jedi friends if they would like to join the party. Brightstar replies that they would love to but would have to return to the Tenoo Jedi Temple. Inaya says that she is happy to have friends on Tenoo. Durango invites her to fly with them next time. When Brightstar points out that the Firehawk is dirty, Durango teases that the last one back to the ship will have to clean it.
