"Aftershock" is the first part of the twentieth episode of the animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures.[1] It was released on Disney+ on February 14, 2024.[2]

Official description[]

The Jedi help a prince serve his people.

Plot summary[]

Groundquake relief[]

On the planet Vuundalla, the Jedi Order responds to a groundquake that has affected a local community. The three Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs use their Force powers to rescue a fathier from a damaged building. The fathier's owner Mina and her father Renaad thank Jedi Master Zia Zaldor Zanna for their help. Master Zia replies that the Jedi had to help after hearing about the groundquake.

When Solay asks what they can do, Renaad says that they need wood, bricks and tools for rebuilding. He explains that all the extra supplies on Vuundalla are stored in a castle but that the inhabitants of the castle have not helped them. Solay is surprised that the local king and queen are not helping. Brightstar asks if they can go and ask the local rulers for help. Master Zia agrees and says that she will come with them.

The royal family[]

At the castle gates, the four Jedi are greeted by several armed security droids. A protocol droid named CK-38 tells them that they cannot show up without an appointment, explaining that the king and queen are busy. He orders them to leave and begins ushering Master Zia away. Just then, Prince Cyrus arrives on his landspeeder and asks what are the Jedi doing here. Master Zia introduces herself and the Jedi, explaining that they have come to help Vuundalla rebuild following the quake. She asks to speak with Cyrus' parents.

Despite CK-38's objections, Cyrus overrules the droid and leads the Jedi to the throneroom. CK-38 tells King Pychor and Queen Dafne that he tried to stop them but the monarchs are too busy feasting on grape-like fruits. Pychor is indifferent to the quake victims, while lamenting the loss of an extra fathier stable. Dafne tells the Jedi they are preoccupied with other matters and is not concerned by the damage done to one village. Brightstar protests that the villagers are their people while Solay adds that they need supplies to rebuild their village. Nubs mouths in agreement.

Master Zia reiterates her students' message. Dafne is indifferent to the plight of the villagers. Zia says that perhaps if they witnessed the plight of their subjects, they would be willing to help them. The King claims that he and his consort are busy so he instead decides to send his son Cyrus. Cyrus protests but Dafne insists he accompany the Jedi. Before the Jedi leave, the monarchs ask about the Galactic Republic's new space station Starlight Beacon. Master Zia sends the younglings to accompany Cyrus to the village while she talks with the monarchs.

Prince Cyrus and the Jedi[]

While walking down a flight of stairs, a grumpy Prince Cyrus insists that the villagers are fine. When Solay asks if he has been down there, Cyrus replies that he has never been to the village nor met the villagers. Brightstar and Nubs are shocked that Cyrus has never met his subjects. Cyrus expresses indifference to the villagers.

When Cyrus visits the village with the Jedi, he is shocked by the devastation caused by the groundquake. Mina hugs Nubs before asking who the prince is. Renaad tells his daughter that they are in the presence of Prince Cyrus. When Mina asks if he has come to help them, Cyrus struggles for words. Brightstar suggests that Cyrus can ask his parents for supplies. Cyrus tries to explain that his parents are not willing to help but Mina hugs and thanks him, causing him to flush in embarrassment. Mina tells him that she is the best.

Cyrus tells the Jedi and Mina that he will fix the groundquake damage by himself. He promises to get the supplies himself. When Solay asks what is his plan, Cyrus proposes borrowing some of the extra supplies from a fathier stable that his parents are building in the woods. When Brightstar asks about the ethics of "borrowing," Cyrus replies that he can do whatever he wants because he is a Prince. Brightstar volunteers to go with Cyrus while Solay and Nubs stay behind to help the locals.

"Borrowing" supplies[]

At the stable construction site, Cyrus commands the foreman droid supervising the loadlifter droids to hand over the supplies. Brightstar backs him up. The foreman droid refuses, saying that the supplies are needed to build the royal stables. When Cyrus says he is changing the orders, the foreman droid counters that he does not have the authority to change orders issued by the king or queen. Cyrus is defiant and confronts the droids, who surround him.

Brightstar intervenes, urging diplomacy. Cyrus takes advantage of the pause to push one of the load lifter droids, causing the droid to knock into its fellow droids in a domino effect. Prince Cyrus fetches a sled carrying wood and equipment. The foreman droid and the loadlifter droids attempt to block his path but the prince manually deactivates the four loadlifter droids by switching them off at the back. In the process, he displays swift acrobatic moves, that startle Brightstar.

Cyrus chases the foreman droid with a broom but accidentally damages one of the stable's walls. Brightstar urges Cyrus to halt the violence. Listening to the Jedi youngling, Cyrus spares the foreman droid and orders him to leave now. When Brightstar suggests that Cyrus take a breath and calm down, the prince says that he has had enough of people telling him what to do. Cyrus confides that he resents Brightstar and helping people whom he barely knows. Cyrus is upset that he damaged the royal stable's walls.

Brightstar speaks to Cyrus, reminding him that he saw that his people needed help and that he tried to do something about it. Cyrus says he has little power despite his title. Brightstar replies that he is not in charge but that his lack of status doesn't stop him from helping others. Brightstar tells Cyrus that he can make a difference and that the only person stopping him is himself. Cyrus agrees and the two travel back to the village, with Cyrus' speeder towing the supplies sled.

Change of heart[]

On the way, they find their path blocked by a palace security droid, who is wielding an electrostaff. Prince Cyrus insists on taking the supplies back to the village while Brightstar tries to reason with the droid. The security droid replies that he has orders to take the supplies and Prince Cyrus back to the palace. Cyrus fights the droid with his electrostaff but the droid gains the upper hand. Brightstar intervenes and confronts the security droid with his lightsaber. However, the security droid adds that Brightstar will also be coming with him.

Before the security droid can make another move, King Pychor activates the restraining bolt, deactivating the droid. Queen Dafne asks Cyrus what is going on. Pychor says that the foreman droid informed them that their son was interfering with their construction site. Dafne says they decided to investigate while Pychor expresses disappointment with Cyrus. Cyrus explains that their people needed help and that he decided to take the supplies. The Jedi and people gather around Cryus in a show of solidarity.

Dafne remarks that she respects her son for proving that he is a man of action. She relents and decides to shade some supplies. King Pychor also asks Master Zia to keep them informed about Starlight Beacon, which she agrees to do.

The Jedi younglings use their Force powers to help repair the villagers' homes including Mina's home. Mina hugs and thanks Cyrus. Brightstar thanks Cyrus for his help, prompting the Prince to say that he likes the "mushy stuff." Brightstar decides to introduce himself to Cyrus. After shaking hands, the two then rejoin the reconstruction efforts.
