"Instead of beggin' for forgiveness, I decided to buy my way back into Oga's good graces by scorin' one of her favorite treats—Blutopia pearls fresh from her watery homeworld. If these squishy little orbs ain't enough to win back her favor, I guess I'll just munch on 'em myself. (But I'll have to do it somewhere other than Batuu!)"
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Blutopia pearls, also written as Blutopia Pearls, were squishy brown orbs from Blutopia, the watery homeworld of Blutopians. They were a favorite treat of the Blutopian Oga Garra and the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs picked some up for her on Blutopia during a culinary tour of the galaxy that he made between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, hoping to earn favor.

He also found the pearls used as an ingredient on the planet Giju in a variant of the beverage Giju Glug and on the planet Ifron, where they were used in Thuris Caf. He then included recipes for the pearls and both beverages in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook.

Description[]

"Each of these establishments offers its own unique list of libations, but one common entry seems to be this fizzy, fruity drink that the locals call Giju Glug. I found a few different variations, but my favorite version included some Blutopia Pearls at the bottom for a bit of extra flavor and flare."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Blutopia pearls, also written as Blutopia Pearls, were small and squishy brown orbs from Blutopia, the watery Expansion Region[1] homeworld of the Blutopian species.[2] Blutopians could eat the vegetarian pearls, as could members of the Artiodac species.[1]

History[]

"Much to my surprise, a Thuris Caf is actually a blend of flavors from multiple worlds—like an Ithor Float with Blutopia Pearls and caf-infused ice cubes, all merged in milk made from koja nuts."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[3]

Blutopia pearls were a favorite treat of Oga Garra.

The pearls were a favorite treat of Oga Garra, a Blutopian who ran Oga's Cantina in Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu and held power over the rest of the outpost. After Garra became upset with the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs for publishing the recipe for the blurrgfire beverage sold at her cantina in his first cookbook,[1] The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook,[4] in 34 ABY,[5] Tuggs decided to try and win back her favor by bringing her Blutopia pearls and picked some up on Blutopia during a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY.[6]

During the tour, he also encountered Blutopia pearls on other worlds such as Ifron, an Outer Rim planet where it was used as part of a blend of flavors from multiple worlds alongside koja nut milk, caf-infused ice cubes, and an Ithor Float in the Thuris Caf served at the Bovris Tapcafe. He also found it used on the Colonies[1] planet[7] Giju, where a layer of the pearls was used as an ingredient in a variant of the beverage Giju Glug that included them for extra flavor and flare. Tuggs decided that this variant was his favorite version of the drink.[1]

In 35 ABY,[6] he published the recipe for the pearls and both beverages in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook. In the recipe for the pearls, he mused that if Garra was not pleased with the treats then he would eat them himself, although he would have to do so somewhere other than Batuu.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Blutopia pearls were created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe is for a boba tea and makes use of boba pearls and water to represent Blutopia pearls and then more water, brown sugar, and vanilla extract for the syrup.[1]

  6. 6.0 6.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
