"Folks who managed to make it there told me that the best bite by far was a battercake as colorful as the kites that were flyin' overhead. I'll prob'ly still be in the kitchen the next time the festival rolls around, but I'll be sure to send some of these battercakes out to help everyone celebrate."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Pasaana Battercakes were a type of colorful cake that was served at the Festival of the Ancestors thrown by the Aki-Aki on the planet Pasaana in 35 ABY. After hearing that they had been the best food available at the festival, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a recipe for the dish in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, and suggested pairing them with Dhanduese Drums.

Pasaana Battercakes were served at the Aki-Aki Festival of the Ancestors on Pasaana.

Pasaana Battercakes were served at the Festival of the Ancestors thrown by the Aki-Aki species on the Expansion Region[1] planet[2] Pasaana[1] in 35 ABY.[3] Attendees of the festival later told the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs that the battercakes had been the best food on offer at the festival by far.[1]

Tuggs had hoped to attend the festival himself as part of a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] but the timing did not work out, so based on the reviews he had received, he included a recipe for the battercakes in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3] In the book, he suggested pairing the cakes with Dhanduese Drums on top for a great flavor combination and promised that he would send out battercakes to help people celebrate during the next Festival of the Ancestors, as the event occurred every[1] forty-two years.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Pasaana Battercakes were created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the cakes makes use of all-purpose flour, baking powder, ginger, nutmeg, kosher salt, coconut milk, large, beaten eggs, honey, pandan extract, vanilla extract, and unsalted butter.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY. Timelines also places the closest occurence of the Festival of the Ancestors in 35 ABY.
