"As sad as I was to have to skip on visitin' Skako in person, I get the feelin' that this thirst-quencher was probably a lot more pleasant."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

The Skako Cooler, a traditional Skakoan beverage, was a pressurized yellow drink that fizzed and bubbled when served on a world with an atmosphere different from that of the planet Skako. Topped with a thick foam and garnishes, the drink was also available for sale in a cantina on the planet Brentaal IV, where it was purchased by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs during a culinary tour of the galaxy he made between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. Tuggs later included a recipe for the Skako Cooler in his cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook.

Description[]

"The liquid in this drink is pressurized just like Skako's atmosphere, creatin' an effervescent fizz in the glass when it's poured on worlds with slightly kinder barometrical conditions. The layer of foam sittin' on top of this bubblin' beverage is almost as thick as the alkaline haze that looms in the upper reaches of Skako's skies."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

The Skako Cooler was a traditional beverage of the Skakoan species on[1] their homeworld,[2] the Core Worlds planet Skako. The drink consisted of a yellow liquid that was pressurized like Skako's high-pressure, methane-based atmosphere, meaning the cooler had an effervescent fizz and bubbled when poured on worlds with a differing atmospheric pressure. A thick head of white foam sat atop the liquid, with a garnish of brown powder and amber-colored chunks. The beverage could be served in a glass and could be consumed by Artiodacs.[1]

History[]

"I had fully intended to make a stop on Skako durin' my tour of the Core, but that was before I realized I was gonna need some sorta special suit to survive in their high-pressure, methane-based atmosphere. Since they don't make those things in my size, I had to scuttle my plans and settle for orderin' up this traditional Skakoan beverage in a cantina on Brentaal IV instead."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Strono Tuggs ordered a Skako Cooler on Brentaal IV rather than visiting Skako.

While taking a culinary tour of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs intended to visit Skako, but after realizing that he would need an atmospheric suit to survive there—something difficult to acquire for a being of his size—he instead ordered a Skako Cooler in a cantina on[1] the Core world[4] Brentaal IV instead. Tuggs later included a recipe for the beverage in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook,[1] which was published in 35 ABY.[3] Although sad to have missed Skako, he stated in the book that the thirst-quenching Skako Cooler was probably more pleasant than experiencing the atmospheric conditions of Skako, comparing the thick foam to the alkaline haze that sat in the upper reaches of the planet's skies.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Skako Cooler was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the drink makes use of mango puree and sparkling water, with a topping of softened cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, heavy whipping cream, and vanilla extract, and finally a garnish of cinnamon and diced candied ginger.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
