"For instance, the folk on Etai drink this jybbuk slush covered in condensed nerf milk. It was good enough already, but coulda used some heat to balance out the sweet—so I swapped their traditional fruit garnish for a candied hot pepper that sparkles like Etai's crystal mines."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Spiced Jybbuk Juice was a beverage made with jybbuk slush covered in condensed nerf milk with a candied hot pepper garnish. It was created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs, who used the candied hot peppers to replace the traditional fruit garnish used with jybbuk slush and condensed nerf milk by the people of the planet Etai. In 35 ABY, he included a recipe for the drink in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook.

Description[]

"Still not sure about the whole lightsaber thing, but this substitution works without question."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Spiced Jybbuk Juice was a beverage consisting of red jybbuk slush covered in a layer of white condensed nerf milk with a garnish that included green candied hot peppers as well as red elements and a green slice.[1]

History[]

"My old friends on Jedha once told me that kyber crystals were the only power source for a lightsaber's blade, but Etai's citizens insist that their own etaan crystals are a perfectly suitable substitute. Maybe it's true, maybe not. (Doesn't really matter, since there ain't any Jedi left anyhow.) But it got me thinkin' about what I could exchange in a recipe and still make it work."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Spiced Jybbuk Juice used the condensed milk of the nerf (pictured) as an ingredient.

The beverage was created by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs as a variant of the people of the Mid Rim[1] planet[2] Etai's consumption of jybbuk slush and condensed nerf milk with a traditional fruit garnish. Tuggs was inspired to swap out the standard fruit garnish for the sparkling peppers after hearing about how the people of Etai claimed that the etaan crystals found there could be used in place of kyber crystals when powering a lightsaber.[1]

Although he believed the standard beverage combination was already good, the Artiodac felt the sweetness could be balanced out by the heat of the peppers. After a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] Tuggs included the recipe for Spiced Jybbuk Juice in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3] In the book, he admitted that he was still unsure if the claim about lightsabers that had inspired the beverage was true, unaware[1] that etaan crystals were in fact just an unusual form of kyber.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Spiced Jybbuk Juice was created as a recipe for Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a 2023 recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the beverage makes use of jalapeño slices, granulated sugar, frozen strawberries, frozen watermelon, coconut water, lime juice, sweetened condensed milk, and a lime.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
