"To reward my better judgment, I treated myself to a slice of this traditional Nantoonian cake, which has some secrets of its own hidden inside. They ain't the kinds of treasures that'll make me rich, but they won't get me killed either."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Nantoon Treasure Cake was a traditional, layered cake from the world Nantoon. Brown and green in color, it had confectionery at its center. While on a culinary tour of the galaxy between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs ate a slice of the cake while on Nantoon and later included a recipe for it in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook.

Description[]

Nantoon Treasure Cake was a traditional type of vegetarian cake from the Colonies[1] world[2] Nantoon. The Nantoonian cake was brown in color, with four layers of green filling that darken in shade from the top down. The cake also had a hollow center filled with colorful confectionery and a brown garnish sprinkled over the top.[1]

History[]

"She told me once that she had a vault on Nantoon—one of twelve secret spots across the galaxy where she stored the spoils from her younger days. When I got to Nantoon, I considered trackin' that vault down, but settin' off a pirate queen's antitamper sub-space alarms seemed like a bad life choice."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

A slice of Nantoon Treasure Cake

As part of a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs visited Nantoon. While on the world, he considered trying to track down a treasure vault that his former employer, Pirate Queen Maz Kanata had told him about; however, he ultimately chose to avoid such a dangerous venture and instead rewarded his good judgment with a slice of Nantoon Treasure Cake. Tuggs later included a recipe for the Nantoonian cake in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3] In the book, he described the confectionery filling as the secret treasure of the cake, musing that while it would not make him rich, it would also not cause his death.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Nantoon Treasure Cake was created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the cake makes use of cake flour, baking powder, kosher salt, unsalted butter, granulated sugar, large eggs, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and blue food gel dye. For the frosting it uses softened, unsalted butter, confectioners' sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, more kosher salt, more vanilla extract, and heavy cream. Finally, for the filling and garnish, the recipe uses chocolate-coated candies, sprinkles, and crushed pretzels.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
