"There's a plant that grows on Kashyyyk called rillrrnnn. It has a nice snap to it when served raw, but this Wookiee told me—via his translatin' vocoder—how his clan wraps rillrrnnn spears in thin strips of cured meat and a soft dough made from Kashyyykian grains."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Rillrrnnn spears were a baked Wookiee dish made by wrapping a rillrrnnn plant in cured meat and soft dough. In 35 ABY, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a recipe for rillrrnnn spears in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, after a Wookiee angrily informed him that he had failed to include the dish in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook.

Description[]

"After addin' a little seasonin', they bake up into a perfect single bite. Well, a single bite for him. Wookiees have huge mouths, remember."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Rillrrnnn spears were a type of baked and seasoned Wookiee food made by wrapping a green spear of the rillrrnnn plant in strips of pink cured meat and a soft brown dough. The dough was created from grains from the Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk, in the Mid Rim. Due to their large mouths, Wookiees could eat a rillrrnnn spear in one bite, while other species took several.[1]

History[]

"Nearly every recipe in my last collection was inspired by the Wookiee holiday Life Day. So, it'd be fair to assume that I've already cooked all the most excitin' dishes from their home planet Kashyyyk. Accordin' to an annoyed Wookiee I encountered there, though, I apparently missed an important one."

Rillrrnnn spears were a Wookiee dish.

At some point after publishing his first cookbook[2] in 34 ABY,[3] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs created a second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook,[2] that focused on dishes relating to the Wookiee Life Day festival; however, it did not include rillrrnnn spears. Despite this, Tuggs assumed that he had covered all the most exciting recipes on Kashyyyk in the book, but he still visited the world during his culinary tour of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY.[4]

While on Kashyyyk, Tuggs was approached by a Wookiee from a clan that made rillrrnnn spears who was vexed that the chef had failed to include such an important recipe and told the Artiodac so using a vocoder. To rectify this issue, Tuggs included a recipe for the dish in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which he published[1] in 35 ABY.[4] He mentioned the annoyed Wookiee in the recipe and claimed that while the spears made the perfect single bite for him, readers would likely need to take several to finish the food, although he claimed that the spear's flavor would make them glad to have extra bites to savor.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Rillrrnnn spears were created as a recipe for the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for the dish makes use of thin, trimmed asparagus, prosciutto, thawed puff pastry, a large egg, water, crumbled feta cheese, and lemon pepper.[1]

  4. 4.0 4.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
