"Much to my surprise, a Thuris Caf is actually a blend of flavors from multiple worlds—like an Ithor Float with Blutopia Pearls and caf-infused ice cubes, all merged in milk made from koja nuts."
―Strono Tuggs[3]

Koja nuts were a type of nut that could be made into milk. In 4 ABY, the bounty hunter Jas Emari compared General Jylia Shale's appearance to the hardness of an uncracked koja nut. In 35 ABY, a recipe for the beverage Thuris Caf was included in the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs' third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which included milk made from the nuts as one of its ingredients.

Description[]

Koja nuts were a type of hard-shelled nut that could be cracked.[2] The nuts could be used to make milk that was consumable by Artiodacs.[1] Koja nuts shared part of their name with koja-rum, a type of rum found on[2] the Outer Rim[1] planet Saleucami.[2]

History[]

ThurisCaf-UltimateCookbook

Thuris Caf's ingredients included milk made from koja nuts.

During the rebellion on the Outer Rim planet Akiva[2] in 4 ABY,[4] the Zabrak bounty hunter Jas Emari saw the Imperial General Jylia Shale entering the Satrap's Palace in the world's capital city of Myrra while hiding beside the communications tower of the derelict Myrra capitol building. Emari recognized Shale and mentally labeled her appearance as old and shrunken-up like a gallstone, with the hardness of an uncracked koja nut.[2]

At some point, the Bovris Tapcafe establishment on the Outer Rim planet Ifron began serving the beverage Thuris Caf, which used milk made from the nuts. While visiting Ifron during his culinary tour of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[5] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs ordered a cup of the caf at the Bovris Tapcafe's bar. He later included a recipe for Thuris Caf in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[5] In the book, he mentioned the drink's other ingredients—the orbs known as Blutopia pearls, the beverage Ithor Float, and caf-infused ice cubes—were mixed with milk made from koja nuts, making for a combination he found a delicious mix of flavors from different worlds.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Koja nuts were first mentioned in Aftermath, a 2015 novel written by Chuck Wendig as the first installment in Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy.[2] The 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak, included an out-of-universe recipe for Thuris Caf that called for almond milk.[1]

  4. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of Aftermath to 4 ABY.
  5. 5.0 5.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
