"Citrom are only good fresh, and they don't stay fresh long, so if you ain't got much squeezin' time in your schedule, there's another option: One of the bartenders at Oga's Cantina in Batuu's Black Spire Outpost came up with this secret mix of juices and spices that perfectly mimics the citrom's refreshin' burn. Had to try it to believe it, but even my refined palate couldn't tell the difference."
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[1]

Blurrgfire was a non-alcoholic beverage that imitated the sweet, sour, and spicy flavor of citrom juice. It was found throughout the galaxy, but it was allegedly invented by a bartender at Oga's Cantina in Black Spire Outpost on Batuu.

Description[]

Blurrgfire was a classic non-alcoholic mixed drink found at cantinas throughout the galaxy.[6] Its flavor imitated juice from a citrom, a fruit that did not stay fresh for long, but was both sweet and sour with a burst of heat. Blurrgfire was suitable for consumption by Artiodacs,[1] humans,[2] and Chadra-Fans. When consumed by pit droids, Blurrgfire would cause erratic behavior.[4]

History[]

Ogas-Blurrgfire

Blurrgfire at Oga's Cantina

According to chef Strono Tuggs, Blurrgfire was invented by a bartender at Oga's Cantina, an establishment that was owned by Oga Garra and located in Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. In Tuggs' account, the bartender came up with a recipe that combined various juices and spices to mimic the flavor of citrom. Tuggs claimed that he could not tell the difference between citrom and Blurrgfire because the imitation was so perfect, and he included the anecdote and a recipe for the drink in his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. Although Tuggs did not specify the bartender's name,[1] author and explorer Eloc Throno wrote in his Traveler's Guide to Batuu that Garra put "her own twist" on the drink.[6]

Near the end of the Clone Wars, Blurrgfire was among the drink selections that the bartender Janott offered to Senator Padmé Amidala when she visited Oga's Cantina for a personal mission.[7] It remained available at the cantina[3] in 34 ABY,[8] and on one occasion Resistance spy Vi Moradi drank it to stay sober and hangover-free while her ex-First Order companion Archex got intoxicated from a potent Jedi Mind Trick.[5]

Also during 34 ABY,[9] Blurrgfire was served at Aunt Z's Tavern[4] on the Colossus, a mobile aircraft refueling station on the ocean planet Castilon, around the time of the First Order-Resistance War.[2] While at the tavern, the Chadra-Fan Orka was drinking the beverage. After realizing that his pit droid G-LN was bored, Orka decided to let the repair droid try some of his Blurrgfire. Upon sipping the drink, G-LN began to cough and then became erratic, running around the tavern and disturbing other patrons. Shortly thereafter,[4] the Klatooinian[10] Bolza Grool hit G-LN on the head, incapacitating the droid and stopping the adverse effects of the Blurrgfire. Upon seeing G-LN unconscious, Orka made a joke[4] to his partner Flix[11] and ordered another round of Blurrgfire.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

Blurrgfire was first mentioned on a trading card available at Disney's December 16, 2017 "Galactic Nights" session, which featured the cantina in the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge park area.[12] At the real-world Oga's Cantina bar, the menu's description reads, "Lemonade, pomegranate juice, and habanero-lime."[13]

Blurrgfire first appeared in "G-LN," a short that aired on December 17, 2018 as part of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance. During its appearance, Blurrgfire was depicted as a pale orange substance as opposed to the deep red coloring it was depicted with in its other appearances.[4]

A recipe for Blurrgfire is included in the 2019 cookbook Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. The ingredients for the beverage are pomegranate juice, habanero lime syrup, and prepared lemonade; before serving, a lime is run around the rim of a glass which is then dipped in red sea salt.[1]

The 2020 non-canon video game expansion The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu includes Blurrgfire as a drink sold to the player's Sims at the Oga's Cantina vendor in the Black Spire Outpost neighborhood. Upon consuming the drink for the first time, the Sim automatically learns the recipe and can prepare it at mixology bars in their home neighborhood.[14]
