"You've been listening to DJ R-3X at Oga's Cantina. If you haven't been there yet, you're missing out! You gotta try the Hyperdrive!"
―Palob Godalhi advertises the Hyperdrive on BSO 401.72[4]

Hyperdrive (Punch It!) was a non-alcoholic, carbonated beverage with berry and fruit flavors. The teal and red punch originated in the casinos of Canto Bight on the desert world Cantonica, where it was consumed by tired gamblers to replenish their energy. In 34 ABY, it was served at Oga's Cantina in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a recipe for the drink in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.

Description[]

"I always find the bold, fruity flavors of the Hyperdrive propel me into pure beverage bliss every time."
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[3]

Hyperdrive (Punch It!) was a non-alcoholic beverage found at drinking establishments in the galaxy. The carbonated punch blended teal-colored berry juices and flavors with crushed ice and a red fruit purée that was poured on top and sank to the bottom of its container. Suitable for humans to drink,[2] the beverage replenished energy when it was consumed.[3] The drink shared its name with the hyperdrives that enabled starships to reach lightspeed along with the phrase "punch it" used by their pilots as an instruction to engage the hyperdrive.[5]

History[]

"This powerful punch was a big winner in the casinos of Canto Bight, givin' patrons the amplified blast they needed to stay up all night and gamble away all their credits. Until they figure out how to make a digestible form of coaxium, this is probably the next best thing. Believe me, after one little sip, you're gonna wanna punch it!"
―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[3]

The punch originated in the casinos of Canto Bight[3] on the desert world Cantonica,[1] where it was a popular beverage that assisted gamblers with staying awake to continue gambling until they ran out of credits.[3] In 34 ABY,[6] it was served in Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu at Oga's Cantina,[2] an establishment that used a hyperdrive to supply power.[7] During that time, host Palob Godalhi of the Black Spire Outpost radio station BSO 401.72 sometimes told listeners they should visit the cantina and order the beverage.[8]

In 34 ABY,[9] after the Battle of Takodana, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs published his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and included a recipe for the beverage, which he enjoyed drinking for its bold flavor and its energizing effects. He compared its ability to provide energy with a hypothetical digestible version of coaxium,[3] a form of hypermatter used as fuel for hyperdrives.[10] Around the same time, Tuggs included his cookbook's recipe for the punch in a small pamphlet of recipes meant to help a Batuu visitor learn more about the planet.[11]

Hyperdrive Punch It

Hyperdrive (Punch It!), as it is served at the real-world Oga's Cantina

Hyperdrive (Punch It!) is one of the non-alcoholic beverages sold to customers in the real-world Oga's Cantina bar in the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios. It was officially announced to the public on February 27, 2019 in an article on the website D23: The Official Disney Fan Club[12] and debuted for guests to purchase when the land opened at its respective parks on May 31 and August 29 of that year.[13] A video released on July 24 by the Disney Parks Blog depicted the drink being made and shared that the in-universe cantina was powered by a hyperdrive.[14] The menu's description reads, "Powerade® Mountain Berry Blast, White Cranberry Juice, Black Cherry Purée, and Sprite®."[15]

An out-of-universe recipe for the beverage is included in the 2019 cookbook Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. The ingredients are white cranberry juice or white grape juice, berry-flavored blue sports drink, lemon-lime soda, and black cherry purée.[3]
