"Driggit? Aren't you supposed to be on patrol? What's under the tarp?"
"What's it to you? Get out of my way."
"You know we have to check every transport coming in and out of the city. Stop being difficult and tell us what's in the truck."
―The Rodian and Gavi, with the latter disguised as Driggit Parse[1]

A Rodian Nihil was stationed on the Outer Rim planet Valo during its occupation by the Nihil marauders. In 229 BBY, he and the Nihil Gak stopped a treadtruck driven by the Jedi youngling Gavi as it drove into Lonisa City, insisting on searching the vehicle. When Gavi—who was disguised as the Nihil recruit Driggit Parse—protested, the Rodian became suspicious of his cover. The two Nihil moved to forcibly lift the treadtruck's tarp. However, Parse arrived and claimed that Gavi was her cousin, "Trank Varado." After briefly arguing with Parse, the Rodian and Gak left the treadtruck and allowed it to pass through.

Biography[]

"Now let Trank go."
"Or what?"
"Or I'll tell Niv Drendow you tried to mess with me. And that you think he has two last names."
"Have it your way. Come on, Gak."
―Driggit Parse and the Rodian Nihil[1]

The Rodian was a Nihil marauder who lived during the High Republic Era. Following the Nihil's occupation of the Outer Rim planet Valo[1] in 230 BBY,[2] he was stationed on the world under the command of Commander Vark Tarpalin. At some point, the Rodian became familiar with the Nihil recruit Driggit Parse, a local Valon girl.[1]

The Rodian Nihil argued with Driggit Parse until eventually conceding to not search her family's treadtruck.

In 229 BBY,[2] the Rodian and the Nihil marauder Gak were sent outside Lonisa City on patrol, inspecting the contents of all vehicles entering or leaving the city. During their shift, the pair saw Parse pass by them on patrol and took note of her appearance. Ten minutes later, the Rodian and Gak encountered the Jedi youngling Gavi—who was disguised in a set of Parse's clothing to pose as her—as he drove the Parse family's treadtruck. The pair stopped the vehicle, and the Rodian questioned what was under the treadtruck's tarp, unaware that Gavi was hiding his crew membersZyle Keem, Tep Tep, and Kildo in the truck. Acting as Parse, Gavi indicated that he was only transporting root-squash and insisted on passing through. The Rodian told Gavi to leave the truck and moved to pry away its tarp, suspicious of the youngling's disguise as Parse because he had seen the girl in a different outfit not long before.[1]

Moments later, Parse herself arrived and claimed that Gavi was "Trank Varado," her cousin who worked as a grocer to bring goods from outside Lonisa City. The Rodian briefly argued with Parse, with the latter threatening the former by promising she would escalate the matter with the Nihil scientist Niv Drendow Apruk. He eventually conceded and left the treadtruck with Gak following, allowing Gavi and Parse to pass through. Following the Nihil's defeat during the raid of the research vessel Innovator, in which many of Tarpalin's subordinates died, the marauders' occupation of Valo ended and all remaining stragglers were taken into custody by the Valo militia.[1]

Personality and traits[]

"You're not Driggit. We saw her walk past ten minutes ago wearing something different. Who are you?"
―The Rodian Nihil confronting Gavi, who was disguised as Driggit Parse[1]

The Rodian was loyal to the Nihil while on Valo, wanting to ensure that all vehicles entering Lonisa City were properly checked. He was quick to resort to violence, quickly readying his blaster when Gavi refused to allow him and Gak to search the Parse family's treadtruck. However, when Parse threatened to feed Apruk a lie about the Rodian believing the scientist had two last names, he conceded and left the vehicle alone. Gavi felt that the Rodian had a nasally voice.[1]

Equipment[]

On Valo, the Rodian wore boots and carried a blaster.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Rodian Nihil appeared in Escape from Valo, a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[3]
