"Have it your way. Come on, Gak."
―The Rodian, to Gak, after yielding to Driggit Parse[1]

Gak was a Narquois Nihil marauder who was stationed on the Outer Rim planet Valo during its occupation by the Nihil. In 229 BBY, they and a Rodian Nihil stopped a treadtruck driven by the Jedi youngling Gavi as it drove into Lonisa City, insisting on searching the vehicle. When Gavi—who was disguised as the Nihil recruit Driggit Parse—protested, Gak and the Rodian moved to forcibly lift the treadtruck's tarp. However, Parse arrived and claimed that Gavi was her cousin, "Trank Varado," and the Nihil pair left after she further threatened them.

Biography[]

"You're not Driggit. We saw her walk past ten minutes ago wearing something different. Who are you?"
―A Rodian Nihil as he and Gak forced Gavi's treadtruck to stall[1]

The Narquois Gak was a Nihil marauder who lived during the High Republic Era. Following the Nihil's occupation of the Outer Rim planet Valo[1] in 230 BBY,[2] the Narquois was stationed on the world under the command of Commander Vark Tarpalin. At some point, they became familiar with the Valon girl Driggit Parse, a Nihil recruit.[1]

Gak and a Rodian Nihil encountered Driggit Parse (pictured) outside of Lonisa City.

In 229 BBY,[2] Gak and a Rodian Nihil were dispatched to inspect the contents of all vehicles entering or leaving Lonisa City. During their shift, they saw Parse pass by them on patrol and took note of her appearance. Ten minutes later, the pair encountered the Jedi youngling Gavi—who was disguised in a set of Parse's clothing to pose as her—as he drove the Parse family's treadtruck. Gak and the Rodian stopped the vehicle and were annoyed at Gavi's reluctance to show them what was stored inside, not knowing that Gavi was hiding his crew membersZyle Keem, Tep Tep, and Kildo—under a tarp.[1]

The two Nihil began prying under the tarp, suspicious of Gavi's disguise as Parse because they had seen the girl in a different outfit not long before. Moments later, Parse arrived and claimed that Gavi was "Trank Varado," her cousin who worked as a grocer to bring goods from outside Lonisa City. Parse briefly argued with and then threatened the Rodian until the latter decided to leave with Gak, allowing the treadtruck to pass. Following the Nihil's defeat during the raid of the research vessel Innovator, in which many of Tarpalin's subordinates died, the marauders' occupation of Valo ended and all remaining stragglers were taken into custody by the Valo militia.[1]

Personality and traits[]

By 229 BBY,[2] Gak was loyal to the Nihil. They snorted menacingly at Gavi as they approached the Parse family's treadtruck, carrying a demeanor that the youngling felt looked solemn. Gak was willing to resort to violence to achieve their desired results, readying their blaster when Gavi refused to allow them and their Rodian companion search the Parse family's treadtruck.[1]

Equipment[]

On Valo, Gak wore boots and carried a blaster.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Gak appeared in Escape from Valo, a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[3]
