"The fair will bring much investment to Valo and the surrounding systems. In fact, it already is. Transport, passage, tourism…"
Samera Ra-oon[1]

Valo was a forested planet[3] in the Valo system on the edge of the Rseik sector.[1] It was where the sentient avian Alcedian species originated.[4] During the time of the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic hosted the Republic Fair on Valo, with dignitaries and visitors from across the galaxy visiting the planet to attend.[3] Around this time, Jedi Master Elzar Mann was intneded to take up the poision as the marshal of Valo's Jedi Temple, however,[1] a Nihil attack on Valo left much of the planet destroyed and hundreds of thousands dead.[6] After the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Valo was again attacked by the Nihil and locked within the Occlusion Zone.[7]

In the Imperial Era, it was known for its barbeques.[8] After the former Jedi Padawan Reva Sevander joined the Galactic Empire's Inquisitorius, she hunted surviving Jedi and Force-sensitives on Valo.[9]

Behind the scenes[]

"Valo is a very off-to-the-side world. It's pretty, and has a very happening culture, but it's never been the center of attention of the whole galaxy the way it is when the Republic Fair happens."
―Daniel José Older[10]

Valo was created by Cavan Scott for the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative,[11] though it was first mentioned in the 2020 short story "Fake It Till You Make It," written by Scott for From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.[8] Valo debuted simultaneously in Scott's novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm[1] as well as The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower, written by Daniel José Older and featuring illustrations by Petur Antonsson.[3]

Scott originally created Valo as the setting of his Marvel Comics series, Star Wars: The High Republic, though only briefly; the planet was subsequently shifted to The Rising Storm instead. The name "Valo" was derived from Avalon, a location featured in Arthurian legend.[11] It was originally meant to be named Carnagra.[12]
