Synopsis
People are not inherently weak! We all have power within us! And what we hope to demonstrate with our revival party... is that the good people and their meta abilities can triumph over evil!! Through their innate power, life will prevail!! We call for the dissolution of your league!! Now, my fine people, liberate them!! Combine your powers and open a path to the coming era!! Show the world that, yes, everyone is a hero! And that at the same time... no one is!!
Koku Hanabata in "Path"

Koku Hanabata (花 (ćÆćŖ) ē•‘ (恰恟) 孔 (恓恆) 腔 (恏恆) Hanabata KōkÅ«?)[1], also known by the code name Trumpet (ćƒˆćƒ©ćƒ³ćƒšćƒƒćƒˆ Toranpetto?), was the leader of the Hearts and Mind Party who was secretly a leading member of the modern Meta Liberation Army. He is one of the main antagonists of the Meta Liberation Army Arc.

He later became one of the nine lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front, an organization formed from the remnants of the League of Villains and the Meta Liberation Army. He was arrested after his defeat during the Paranormal Liberation War.

Appearance[]

Koku is a man with reasonably long, black hair that he wears swept back, a single strand left hanging down over his face, thin eyebrows, and a small mustache. He has an angular nose and small, feminine eyes with dark blue irises. He has yellow glasses with purple-tinted lenses.

He wears a plain business suit, consisting of a white dress shirt, a black tie and a black blazer.

Personality[]

Koku portrays himself as a calm and level headed man, as he was not fazed by Curious' death, and instead displayed his intelligence and skills in manipulation by instead taking advantage of her death and along with using his Quirk to further motivate and strengthen his comrades instead, showing his skills as a worthy leader and military commander. He's also shown to be arrogant as seen when Spinner compared himself to the Meta Liberation Army and stated how they were the same, earning his malice by insinuating that Spinner was his equal.

Like the other MLA commanders, Koku is very loyal and dedicated to Re-Destro and the Liberation Army's cause, as seen when Gigantomachia appeared in Deika City, he immediately redirected his warriors towards the grand commander's location, hoping to aid him. While he was shocked upon Re-Destro's defeat and surrender, he still accepted Tomura Shigaraki as his new leader, although it was because Re-Destro told him so. As Koku mentioned towards Skeptic, he perceives Re-Destro's will as that of the original Destro and thus sees it as absolute. Despite having no complaints over the changes in leadership, he does find it difficult to watch Re-Destro grovel towards his new superiors.

Abilities[]

Political Authority: Being a politician, Koku had some level of influence within the Japanese government and society in general. Since he's the leader of his own political party, he had full authority over it as well. However, the Hearts and Mind party was dissolved.

Leadership Skill: Koku was one of the Top Commanders of the new Meta Liberation Army, a military force that consisted of over 100,000 members. He later became a Lieutenant of the Paranormal Liberation Front.

Charisma: Koku has been noted to possess an incredible level of charisma. He was able to raise the spirits of the Meta Liberation Army members and convince them to continue fighting, even after negative events, such as the death of Curious and the appearance of thousands of Twice clones.

Meta Ability[]

Incite (ē…½ (恛悓) 動 (恩恆) Sendō?): Koku's Meta Ability lines his voice with an electromagnetic pulse. If someone who considers Koku a worthy leader hears his voice, then their physical and mental state will be significantly enhanced. The louder Koku's voice is, the more effective his Meta Ability becomes. Using this power to strengthen someone takes a toll on the recipient's body.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Koku's first name contains the kanji for "cavity, hole, slit" (孔 ko?) and "body cavity" (腔 ku?), and his surname contains "flower" (花 hana?) and "field" (ē•‘ bata?).
  • Koku's MLA codename, Trumpet, makes him the only MLA executive not to have a codename based on an emotion.
  • Excluding Re-Destro, Koku is the only lieutenant of the PLF not to be the leader of a regiment.
