Beretta ｢ベレッタ, beretta｣ is the bodyguard of Ramiris. Once a greater daemon, they were summoned to inhabit a golem created by Rimuru and act as Ramiris' guardian for 100 years. Upon possessing the Golem and being named, Beretta evolved into an arch doll. The original contract was later annulled, and Beretta became Ramiris' permanent subordinate with Rimuru as their secondary master granting them access to additional powers and potential for further evolution.
Appearance[]
When summoned by Rimuru, Beretta was a Greater daemon, much more muscular compared to a Lesser daemon. On both side of it's head horns protruding. With black skin, dressed in expensive clothes.
A doll necessarily uses spherical joints. But surprisingly, the golem came out just as Rimuru had imagined it. In order to move the golem all that is needed is to direct magical energy into the joints. Rimuru made the face look beautiful and gave it a mask similar in design to his own. The golem was as large as a human, 180cm tall to be precise.
After receiving the name Beretta, it began to evolve. they first formed into a circle, but then chest, head, hips, arms, and legs formed, along with a face. The face was now hidden behind a mask and, instead of the black skin, long black hair now adorned it's body, skin pale, and bloodless with long white hair. The eye slits on the mask glowed crimson.
Personality[]
Beretta originally a Daemon of the Black lineage, Beretta takes on many characteristics that match or are similar to their progenitor, Diablo, due to the fact that all Daemons take on the basic personality traits of their respective progenitors.
Like Diablo, Beretta holds a high level of etiquette and respect. They are fervently loyal to their master and those they have respect for. They also share their progenitor's trait of curiosity and desire to learn and experience new things. They are rarely shown to be overtly distressed or emotional, instead carrying a relaxed air. Like Diablo, this, however, masks a ruthless and cold nature which they expose to enemies in battle.
In the midst of combat their demeanor is calm even when they brutally dispatches their foes. When it slew another doll, Viola, who had been under the control of Clayman, they only showed a fleeting interest in learning its name after tearing out its core while remarking about how fun it will be to take and study Viola's weapon at their leisure at a later time, making it clear that they felt nothing at its demise nor any hesitation to end it.
They take great pleasure in studying magical artifacts with Ramiris and experimenting with magical spells and devices.
Trivia[]
- The summoning of Beretta is glossed over in episode 23 to be expand upon in a 2 minutes ONA (Original Net Animation) released on the Bandai Spirits YouTube channel and region locked.
- They are the only known Daemon to be named by Rimuru after a firearms brand rather than cars. According to Rimuru, he named them as such because "something about the golem's form reminded me of the beautiful lines of that famous family of firearms."
- Incidentally, Chevrolet also produced a car model called Beretta from 1987 to 1996.
- The author mentioned that he originally intended to name all golem-based daemons after firearms and name homunculus-based daemons after supercars. However, Beretta ended up being the only golem-based demon appearing in story.
- It is implied in Episode 23: Saved Souls of the Anime that Primordial Noir was supposed to answer Rimuru's summoning in the labyrinth instead of Beretta, but they had gotten ahead of him.
- In the light novel, Diablo casually commented that he was so jealous of Beretta that he tried to dispose of them in secret, but was stopped by the simple phrase "This body was created by Lord Rimuru, damaging it would displease him." This infuriated Diablo, but he didn't pursue the matter further.
- Beretta as a Daemon of the black lineage, makes them one of Diablo's descendants. Much like Diablo, Beretta is whimsical and values things other than strength. All demons of a certain color take on the basic personality traits of their progenitor.
- In some translations of the Light novel Beretta is referred to with either gender-neutral or male pronouns. In the English translations of Manga, Anime and ISEKAI Memories Beretta is referred to with male pronouns. In one instance of the English dub of Season 2 specifically when Ramiris mentioning if someone happened to Rimuru what will happen to Beretta, in that instance Beretta is referred to with female pronouns, likely due to Beretta's long hair and feminine voice used that ended up confusing the translators when dubbing, the sub for Season 3 also referred Beretta as female too. That would lead to Beretta being put in female character category in various Anime polls because of it.
