Zeffo was an electromagnetic wind-swept planet[2] located in the Outer Rim Territories.[1] A water-rich world, its terrain consisted of rocky mountains and cliffs, and its surface was covered in grass. The planet featured a number of ruins and crypts that were protected by the Tomb Guardians. Zeffo was home to a number of creatures, including the Phillak and the Scazz.[2] Zeffo was once home to a community of archaeologists and pioneers who visited the planet during the time of the Galactic Republic.[1] When the Galactic Empire rose to power, the peaceful community was destroyed by the pillaging of historical sites and sacred tombs. The Emperor sought valuable information on Zeffo, as did the former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis.[2]

Description[]

Zeffo was a world inside the isolated Zeffo system which was a part of the Outer Rim Territories close to the Veragi Trade Route. It was located in the New Territories, the northernmost region of the galaxy in grid square M-3 of the Standard Galactic Grid. From space, it looked like a green- blue orb covered by large patches of white clouds. It was an electromagnetic wind-swept planet rich in water that also featured regions of Rocky Mountains and Cliffs covered in grass and snow and was inhabited by dangerous fauna such as the Jotaz, Phillaks and Scazz. It was the homeworld of the ancient Zeffonians then later a small community of archaeologists and pioneers who hailed from the Galactic Republic. The world was dotted with various ruins, ancient catacombs and tombs that was built by the ancient Zeffonians. They were thought to have died out by the time of the Clone Wars. By 14 BBY[4], the world was occupied by the Galactic Empire with the world being slightly scarred because of the initiation of Project Auger.[5]

History[]

The Zeffo[]

In its early history, Zeffo was home to the Force-sensitive species named the Zeffonians. During their time of rule, they constructed many statues and relics. They left behind many tombs, dedicated to several Zeffo Sages, protected by Tomb Guardians.[2]

Republic Era[]

During this time period, the planet was largely visited by archaeologists who wished to discover ancient Zeffo artifacts. Jedi Master Eno Cordova conducted research of the tombs here.[2]

At some point during this era, a Republic Venator-class Star Destroyer, under the command of General Chiata, crash-landed on Zeffo. Shortly after the crash, Chiata's unit of clone troopers carried out Order 66, killing Chiata and her Padawan Marseph.[2]

Imperial occupation[]

"In accordance with the Emperor's will we've occupied Zeffo, 'redistributing' its inhabitants. This planet has failed to yield significant data or relics for Project Auger. Its electromagnetic winds have rendered the bulk of our mining technology useless. Meanwhile, more troopers lose their lives to dangerous fauna. We will not be able to fulfill our directive here. It is my recommendation that we disband the project and leave a token outpost to keep scavengers from stealing our technology."
―A stormtrooper[2]

Under Imperial occupation, Zeffo's ice caves and many other areas were excavated as part of Project Auger. In search for Zeffo artifacts, the Empire drove many Zeffo inhabitants from their homes in the villages, using Imperial Code 94364.[2]

Cal Kestis visited Zeffo twice during this time, in search of the Zeffo tombs that Eno Cordova had conducted research on.[2]

Society and culture[]

Zeffo Villagers[]

"The villagers built this memorial to the clones on the Venator. If only they knew the truth."
―Cal Kestis[2]

The villagers on Zeffo had a deep respect for the dead and acknowledged that their struggles allowed the survival of those living. To respect those dead, they built stone sculptures that looked as if they were inspired by ancient Zeffo Architecture. The villagers also respected the clone troopers and built a memorial unaware of the truth about Order 66.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Zeffo was a planet created for the game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment.[2] It was first revealed in an entry on the StarWars.com Databank.[1] The depiction of Zeffo seen when the player travels to the planet was created by George Rushing, senior concept artist at Respawn.[6]
