The Nothing is a malevolent entity and sentient force from The Last Reality. It is the first primordial entity in existence before the birth of The Zero Point. The Nothing could also be referred to as a place where nothing exist.

It is a major antagonist in Fortnite, first mentioned in the aftermath of The End Event, and the overarching antagonist of Chapter 3: Season 4.

Appearance[]

Little is known about the true appearance of the Nothing, but it is speculated that The Nothing is the embodiment of nothingness itself.

During Bytes Quests, The Nothing speaks through a Chromeified TV.

Personality[]

The Nothing speaks in a ghostly male voice. The Nothing is looking for gifted individuals touched by the Chrome; it uses its skills at manipulation to guide them down a path of darkness that takes away their identity and heralds them a useful asset. The only known individual chosen by The Nothing thus far has become a warrior for The Last Reality since proving himself capable of wielding its power.

History[]

The Big Bang[]

According to The Foundation, In the beginning there was Nothing. Then, in a burst of pure creation, The Zero Point sprang into being.

Fortnite: Save The World[]

In Save the World, The Nothing is a type of corruption originated from The Storm named by Carlos. In Remote Control and Signal Strength quests. It made people of Homebase lazy, consuming them with existential dread and making them feels lifeless.

It was revealed in Bandwidth Issues that Dr. Vinderman was aware of the existence of The Nothing, backed up with multiple weapon plans that were lost.

Unknown Time Period[]

In Batman/Fortnite: Foundation comic, The Foundation claims to have survived in the Nothing.

Season X[]

The Seven's miscalculation turned the whole island into nothing. The Nothing was first mentioned in the black hole aftermath of The End event.

"I was not alone, others are outside the loop, this was not calculated, The Nothing is now inevitable."^[4]

Chapter 2: Season 8[]

The Cube Queen commands her army of The Last Reality to "leave nothing behind." In the Chapter 2: Season 8 Battle Pass Trailer, The Cube Queen said "Only Nothing, will remain."^[5]

Chapter 3: Season 4[]

In the cinematic trailer, a sinister laugh can heard from the shifting Chrome after it consumed most members of The Seven. The Herald's outfit description ominously states that "The Nothing is coming". In the Bytes Quests, Bytes was chosen by The Nothing itself to be warrior for The Last Reality. In the Paradise Quests, The Paradigm mentioned The Nothing, however the audio is mostly unintelligible. The Herald would eventually destroy the majority of the island in Fracture event.

Chapter 4: Season 1[]

AMIE's test subjects sent through test rifts encountered "It" sculpting The Scientist and the others into something new. The test subjects returned to AMIE corrupted with new forms.

Chapter 4: Season OG: The Big Bang[]

After the meteor stuck the Zero Point, everything turned into nothing just like The End event but only for a short period of time. The Zero Point sprang into being and cause a Big Bang. It's possible The Nothing itself was effected by The Big Bang but to what extent is not known but it's most likely still active.

Trivia[]

• The Nothing is the complete opposite of The Zero Point (The source of Everything).
• The voice files for the Nothing used in Bytes Quests are named "Distant Voice".
• The ambience sound effect files for the Reality Tree in Chapter 3: Season 4 are named "Nothing Tree".
• The Nothing seems to be inspired by the Nothing from The NeverEnding Story.
• Although it is not confirmed, it is implied that the Chrome, The Storm, and the Darkness itself are only manifestations or extensions of The Nothing.

Speculation Trivia[]

• Some clues suggest that The Nothing and the The Shapeless Man may be the same entity.
  • Neither entity appears to have a physical body.
  • Both have observed and chosen individuals (Bytes and Rift Warden Stellan respectively) to help them in their objectives by manipulating them.
  • Among the dreams The Shapeless Man showed to Stellan, one was about stars swallowed in darkness, reminding how The Nothing wants to destroy The Omniverse by destroying every reality.
  • The Nothing is theorized to be the entity who manipulated Raz dreams since his childhood to make him visit The Spire and fall to Darkness, just like The Shapeless Man did with young Stellan.
    • However, other elements seem to indicate that The Shapeless Man would in fact not be The Nothing, but Geno due to an element he had mentionned to Stellan "He always said he imagined a world of perfect order. -Stellan."
