The Big Bang was a Storyline Event in Fortnite: Battle Royale that began on December 2nd, 2023, at 2:00 PM ET and ended at 11:00 PM ET.

The Big Bang was the concluding Live Event for Chapter 4: Season OG and Chapter 4 in its entirety.

Buildup[]

Doctor Slone sent Jones back to the past in order to accomplish a mission to allow the extraction of Asteria's inhabitant to a safe place.

On November 9th, 2023, The Rocket's construction began in the Diner Warehouse in Dusty Diner. Meanwhile, the Time Machine ended up in Loot Lake, due to Jones' truck slipping on a banana peel on the way. So, he had to use a trailer to carry the machine.

On November 16th, 2023, The Rocket's construction finished, along with the Time Machine now being in Dusty Divot. The Cube began extracting The Zero Point out of the Vault.

On November 21st, 2023, the countdown appeared in-game and in the lobby, along with the key art being revealed, and the blog post.

On November 23rd, 2023, the Time Machine was strapped onto the Rocket, which is the final stage of the Time Machine, and the rocket itself. The Cube began absorbing the energy of The Zero Point.

The Event[]

The Rocket at Dusty Divot launches into the sky, the Time Machine attached to the rocket causes it to glitch into different objects, such as a shark and a Crackshot figure. The rocket then accelerates towards the tail of the meteor, creating a rift behind it. Multiple rockets, presumably the Seven, repeatedly teleport from behind the meteor into a rift in front of the meteor, picking up speed each time. The meteor eventually starts moving, whilst also transforming into different objects. This causes the meteor to disappear into the rift. Following this, another rift opens up above Loot Lake, the rocket appears from the rift, aiming directly towards the Zero Point. Following the original rocket, the remaining few rockets guide the meteor which is repeatedly transforming towards the Zero Point, causing the meteor to implode the Zero Point, and create a black hole that swallows the entire island.

After the entire island was swallowed and nothing was left behind, the Big Bang, a massive explosion of psychedelic patterns, occured. The player is then shown shooting through space following a trail of items presumably from a different universe. The player is then shown previews of the upcoming gamemodes, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, along with an Eminem Concert which serves as a preview for Fortnite Festival.

The event ends with The Looper witnessing and passing by the other galaxies created; locating the reality which contains Helios.

  • The codename was leaked in Chapter 4: Season 1.
• The event had been worked on for about a year.
• The event was indirectly announced in Unreal Fest 2023.^[6]
• The Big Bang was the first Live Event to use Lumen.
• The name of the event was leaked 4 days before the announcement, although it was teased by the Fortnite Twitter/X account multiple times.^[7]
• The event was the only one in Chapter 4.
• The event was teased to Content Creators by Epic at the start of Chapter 4: Season OG.^[8]
• The Seize the Future music pack hinted at the big bang part of this event.
• The Big Bang was the most watched Live Event in Fortnite history, with 10+ million viewers.
  • The high player count for the event led to several server issues including login issues, game queues of over 1 hour, and players disconnecting from the game. Epic attempted to remedy this by replaying the event two more times^[9]. The second of three showings at 5:00 ET was canceled as a result of the ongoing server issues, but the 11:00 ET showing played as scheduled.
• This event is the first narrative live event to not be completely lore related.
  • The event served as more of a showcase of the three new game modes in Fortnite: LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival and reveal The Metaverse, which he had long planned the game to become back in 2017.
• The Cube and the floating Loot Lake Island were missing from the event, despite it hovering over The Zero Point before.
• The event music is copyrighted and cannot be used in creator made UEFN islands.
