The expansion of the Stormwall was the expansion of the territory within the Nihil-controlled area of the Outer Rim known as the Occlusion Zone[1] in 228 BBY,[3] achieved by moving and increasing the size of the Stormwall. Several star systems, two whole sectors, and half of the Seswenna sector were swallowed by the zone's new borders. The expansion was carried out under the orders of Marchion Ro, who acted in feigned outrage toward the Galactic Republic's refusal to provide the Nihil with representation in the Galactic Senate, as well as the Republic Defense Coalition's recent assault on the Stormwall.[1] The shift in the Stormwall's position also trapped RDC operatives Pikka Adren and Joss Adren,[4] who had been on the Stormwall's prior border investigating an apparently abandoned Nihil ship,[2] behind enemy lines and trapped within Nihil space.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
The expansion of the Stormwall was is featured as a plot point in several works[1] from Phase III of The High Republic multimedia project.[5] The event was first depicted but not described in the The High Republic: Tales from the Occlusion Zone short story "No Big Deal," where it the cliffhanger[2] of the Stormwall's expansion[4] is only left implied.[2] The expansion would be properly seen and described in The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness, a 2023 novel written by George Mann[1] The subsequent Tales from the Occlusion Zone story "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Friend or Foe?" then confirmed the cliffhanger from "No Big Deal" was the change in the Stormwall's position.[4]
The initial hardcover release of The Eye of Darkness lists the expansion of the Stormwall taking as taking planets like Pantora, which the zone already contained, Sullust, Utapau, Ryloth, Malastare, and Sluis Van before its new border nearby Eriadu. However, the placement of the new border did not align with the placement of Malastare and Sullust on the galactic map. In the digital edition, the list is edited so Malastare, Pantora, and Sullust are not included. The new list of taken planets instead mentions Triton, Abtin, and Elrood.[6]
