Chibi Godzilla (ちびゴジラ Chibi Gojira^?) is a young kaiju and the protagonist of the Chibi Godzilla children's series, who first appeared in the 2018 children's book Do Your Best, Chibi Godzilla. Chibi Godzilla is Godzilla as a child experiencing the world with his kaiju friends before growing up to become the future kaiju.

Name[]

Chibi Godzilla's name comes from "chibi" (ちび^?), which is Japanese for "small" or "little", and Godzilla. In Japanese popular culture, "Chibi" describes child-sized characters with exaggerated and cute appearances to appeal to younger audiences, denoting this Godzilla being intended for children. His name is the same in both Japanese and English, although it is sometimes contracted to ChibiGodzi (ちびゴジ, Chibigoji^?) or ChibiGodzilla.

Design[]

Appearance[]

Chibi Godzilla's design is a simplified version of the traditional kaiju, with light green skin, pointed ears, white maple leaf-shaped dorsal plates on his back, and a white muzzle. His head has a bumpy texture, and he has three claws on each of his feet. His eyes are large with black pupils.

His second form is designed after Kamata-kun from Shin Godzilla. When he bumped his knee, he goes from yellow to purple.

Roar[]

His roar is reused from the Showa Godzilla.

Personality[]

In earlier stories, contrast to the fearsome and bold adult Godzilla, Chibi Godzilla is naive, curious and playful due to him being a child, but cries easily when he gets upset. He is very friendly to the other Chibi kaiju around him. In Chibi Godzilla Raids Again, though he still is very child-like and caring for his friends, he now has a new, sometimes uncontrollable, urge for destruction. He is still naive and friendly but doesn't seem to get upset as easily now, if at all.

History[]

Chibi Godzilla Raids Again[]

Chibi Godzilla of Monster Island[]

One day, Chibi Godzilla would find Chibi Mechagodzilla washed up on a beach and decided to fire his heat ray at Mechagodzilla, waking the mech up. After a brief conversation, Chibi Godzilla introduced Mechagodzilla to the Monster Island, himself and his father, Godzilla himself. Chibi Godzilla revealed that his dream was to grow bigger so he could hug his father, eventually deciding to befriend Chibi Mechagodzilla.

The Three-Headed Scary God, Chibi Ghidorah[]

Chibi Godzilla began showing Monster Island to Chibi Mechagodzilla, eventually encountering Chibi Ghidorah. Chibi Godzilla inform Chibi Mechagodzilla about Ghidorah's heads, how each had has a different personality, how they often disagree and how they all feel the same pain. Chibi Godzilla would asked Ghidorah about what they suggested to show Mechagodzilla, with Godzilla answering his own question with the Dainashi Supermarket, although Chibi Mechagodzilla ignored this. Once Mechagodzilla proclaimed how good Monster Island was, Chibi Godzilla assumed it was because of the Dainashi Supermarket, causing Chibi Mechagodzilla to exclaim in frustration.

The Resplendent Maiden, Chibi Mothra[]

Chibi Godzilla eventually decided to introduce Chibi Mechagodzilla to Chibi Mothra and the Shobijin. Wanting to chat with Chibi Mothra, Godzilla asked the Shobijin if he and Chibi Mechagodzilla could speak with the divine moth. The Shobijin didn't want them to talk with Chibi Mothra, however, and tried to drive off the duo. Later on, Chibi Godzilla explained to Mechagodzilla about Mothra's poisonous scales which she releases when she cries. Eventually Chibi Godzilla would be knocked out by the poisonous scales.

The Ruler of the Skies, Chibi Rodan[]

Later, Chibi Godzilla wanted to meet up with his much larger father, and decided to hike up a mountain alongside Chibi Mechagodzilla and Chibi Mothra to talk to him. As they hiked, the trio encountered Chibi Rodan, who in his arrogant ways, assumed the others were speaking about him. Chibi Godzilla told Chibi Rodan that the group were hiking up the mountain, with Chibi Rodan questioning why they weren't flying only to realise that Chibi Godzilla and Mechagodzilla couldn't. After Chibi Mechagodzilla caused Rodan to fall to the ground, Chibi Godzilla explained that Chibi Rodan would fall if someone made a good enough argument. After Chibi Mechagodzilla caused Chibi Rodan to fall the ground once again, with Godzilla exclaiming at the mecha to, "stop with the truth bombs", Chibi Godzilla asked Chibi Rodan if he could fly him up the mountain, with Rodan refusing due to his hatred for monsters who couldn't fly.

Monster Study Session[]

Chibi Godzilla would take his friends for a studying session so they could all grow up to become big and powerful monsters. The first question he asked was what monster was the hardest for Godzilla to defeat. Chibi Mechagodzilla asked if it was Mechagodzilla, only for Chibi Godzilla to exclaim how the robot was wrong and expel him, only to let Mechagodzilla stay. After Chibi Ghidorah and Chibi Mothra answered incorrectly, Chibi Godzilla stated the true answer was sunlight in the summer. The next question was what kind of building felt best to destroy, the answer being prefabricated houses because of they feel good like a pressure point mat. The final question was what made Godzilla want to go home, this answer being when he pops out of the sea facing the wrong way. After this session concluded, Chibi Godzilla advertised the next lesson, "Should we stomp them? Or chomp them? How to destroy trains with style!".

The Roaring Dragon, Chibi Anguirus[]

On this day, Chibi Godzilla would teach Chibi Mechagodzilla about how to get food on Monster Island, telling the robot how he uses traps to capture his prey, testing a large bear trap on Chibi Mechagodzilla to great effect. Just then, the duo heard a loud roar with Chibi Godzilla disappearing. Godzilla reappeared when Chibi Anguirus showed up, explaining the reason Chibi Anguirus roars is because his voice already broke. Chibi Godzilla then attempted to try to translate what Anguirus was saying to Chibi Mechagodzilla. He then got the idea that the Shobijin could help let them understand Anguirus. When the Shobijin began messing with them, Chibi Godzilla tried to translate again, but completely messed it up.

All Chibi Monsters Attack[]

Chibi Godzilla, alongside Chibi Ghidorah and Chibi Anguirus, would begin destroying Chibi Mechagodzilla's model city to the dismay of Mechagodzilla. Chibi Godzilla explained that a monster can't help but destroy any city they see in any form. Chibi Godzilla begged he could continue destroying, with Chibi Mechagodzilla denying him every time. Eventually he couldn't contain his destructive urges, revealing a more realistic face. Chibi Godzilla's rage got so much to the point where his heat ray began leaking out of his nose, yelling about his uncontrollable urge to destroy. Chibi Godzilla then pretended there was another reason for his uncontrollable destruction urges, purposefully dragging out his flashback to continue destroying the model city, only for Chibi Mechagodzilla to point this out. The three monsters apologized to Mechagodzilla, who left the house, believing they would fix the city. Chibi Godzilla then decided to betray his trust, convincing the other two monsters to continue destroying the model city, only to notice Chibi Mechagodzilla had spotted them. Chibi Mechagodzilla fired his rainbow eye beams at the three, knocking them to the ground.

The Sage of Grudges, Chibi Hedorah[]

Chibi Godzilla brought Chibi Mechagodzilla and Chibi Rodan to the monster studying place, bringing over Chibi Hedorah as their special instructor. Calling for Mister Hedo, the slime monster revealed himself. Chibi Godzilla was intrigued by what Chibi Hedorah said about humans, specifically about how pathetic they were. Godzilla would also explain that Chibi Hedorah would deepen his voice to make it sound like he really hated humans. Chibi Godzilla was then extremely surprised when he learnt Chibi Hedorah had never met humans.

The Bewitching Rose, Chibi Biollante[]

Chibi Godzilla, Chibi Mechagodzilla and Chibi Mothra would go to Chibi Biollante's bar, due to the fact that it's the only bar on Monster Island and being the place where everyone can vent about their problems. Chibi Godzilla would explain to Chibi Mechagodzilla that this bar that only serves dried snacks and that the drinks are in the machines outside the bar. Chibi Godzilla would then get serves crackers by Chibi Biollante as he watched the rose try to help Chibi Mothra and Chibi Mechagodzilla with their issues.

Chibi Godzilla's Second Form[]

During his sleep, Chibi Godzilla would sprain his neck, causing him to turn into his second form to the shock of Chibi Mechagodzilla, Chibi Ghidorah and Chibi Mothra, the latter two instantly knowing what had happened. Chibi Godzilla was extremely awkward as he no longer could turn his neck without it hurting, red stuff would come out of the gills on his neck and he could now relate to slugs. Chibi Mechagodzilla told Chibi Godzilla to go to a doctor but refused as he didn't see the discoloration as a bad thing, using multiple different examples, like injured knees, boiled crabs and traffic lights. Eventually he would ask for help from the group. Mothra suggested stretching, which Chibi Godzilla did. Eventually his head began becoming green again and his affinity for slugs was dying down. Eventually after a good stretch, Chibi Godzilla reverted back to normal, though he still somewhat cared about slugs. Later on in the day, Chibi Godzilla bumped his knee, causing him to revert back to his regular form, though it was purple this time.

An All-Chibi Monster Chorus[]

Returning to Chibi Biollante's bar, Chibi Godzilla, Chibi Mechagodzilla, Chibi Mothra, the Shobijin and Chibi Anguirus came for a karaoke night. Chibi Godzilla would be the first monster to sing a song, being the Godzilla theme. He would then question why Chibi Mechagodzilla stopped the song, only for the mecha to respond he stopped it because there were no lyrics and Chibi Godzilla was just singing the beat. Chibi Godzilla then watched as the Shobijin began singing the Mothra song they were forcing Chibi Mothra to sing, being extremely confused. Eventually the whole group, other than Chibi Mechagodzilla, began 'singing' the Godzilla theme.

The War at Low Tide[]

Chibi Godzilla, Chibi Mechagodzilla, Chibi Ghidorah and Chibi Rodan would go to the beach for clam digging, only for Chibi Hedorah to arrive as he was cleaning the beach, with Chibi Godzilla noticing how much trash there was on the beach. Chibi Godzilla would then ask where the garbage came from, with Chibi Hedorah answering that it was the humans. Chibi Godzilla would listen to the stories of 'war' Chibi Hedorah talked about, proclaiming about how foolish studying was. Chibi Godzilla then decided to help Chibi Hedorah with cleaning up the beach.

A Mighty Monster's Instincts[]

One day Chibi Godzilla would sneeze, firing his heat ray in the process. Chibi Ghidorah noted that he had never fired his heat ray while sneezing with Chibi Godzilla noting that he had a sudden urge to constantly fire the heat ray. Eventually he sneezed again, this time letting out a roar exactly the same as Godzilla to the shock of everyone. The rest of the group believed Chibi Godzilla was going through a vocal transformation like Chibi Anguirus. Chibi Godzilla then fired his heat ray in sheer joy as he was going to become like his father. Later, the other Chibi monsters found a letter that Chibi Godzilla wrote. Both his voice had changed and his destructive urges had grown. Believing he could possibly hurt his friends, he decided to embark on a voyage, deciding to meet again when they were fully grown. However, this voyage was cut short as Chibi Godzilla returned just that second, as he only had a cold and always had the destructive urges in his head.

Durability[]

Chibi Godzilla was shown to be able to survive being squished by his much larger father without any noticeable damage. He was also able to survive Mothra's poisonous scales and Mechagodzilla's eye beams.

Fire breath[]

In earlier appearances, Chibi Godzilla was shown to be able to breath fire rather than the more traditional atomic breath.

Heat ray[]

In Chibi Godzilla Raids Again, Chibi Godzilla is shown to be able to fire a blue heat ray. According to Chibi Godzilla himself, the heat ray can reach temperatures of 160,000 degrees or even 500,000 degrees, although it can also be fired at much less hot 180 degrees.

Second form[]

If Chibi Godzilla sprains his neck during his sleep, he transforms into his second form. In this form, he can spray red liquid from his gills which can scary off enemies.

Godzilla Battle Line[]

Chibi Godzilla appears as a 2-star unit in Godzilla Battle Line. Here, he shoots a flame breath from his mouth, constantly getting more powerful until it develops into a proper blue heat ray.

Not only does he appear as a unit but he also has a couple stickers and icons of him.

Trivia[]

In I'm Home! Chibi Godzilla, Chibi Godzilla's voice is provided by Serika Hiromatsu while in Chibi Godzilla Raids Again, he's voiced by Jun Fukuyama.
In earlier appearances, Chibi Godzilla would breath fire, however, Chibi Godzilla Raids Again seemingly retcons this with a new blue heat ray. Chibi Godzilla even mentions his ray isn't fire
