Hey all!
Hope you've had a great weekend! For the past month, we've been reviewing our material on the database this vast community has built, and a big question that pops up is a tough one to answer -- when we think about "kaiju", does it automatically mean "Godzilla"?
Short answer is technically no. Kaiju is its own genre, and Godzilla is only a part of the whole. Multiple works of the kaiju genre-and its sister genre, tokusatsu-encompass a wide variety of works ranging from Ultraman to Pacific Rim to Power Rangers. As each franchise is its own, logically, this means there is no reason to include every kaiju series on a wiki that is only on one specific series. However, this conflation meant many non-Godzilla pages plagued the community for the longest time; at the same time, wiki traffic came at the expense of wikis from other kaiju series who are overshadowed by Godzilla. Among us in the staff, we've devised a proposal to solve both problems: helping the other kaiju fandom wikis find their ground by transferring content over to them, starting with the long-awaiting Gamera Wiki.
Please note this is not a fork, but a cross-collaboration project to disperse and seed content with the end goal of bringing kaiju fandoms together. This migration plan is part of an affiliation in the works that will take place afterward. The Gamera content will be the same as here, the only difference is they will be preserved on the appropriate wiki instead.
As this is only a proposal for the content issue, we want to hear feedback from you, the hard-working community that makes the heart of the fandom. Whether you're alright with the migration-affiliation or if you can see efficient alternatives, feel free to share your thoughts in the comment below.
Thank you all for reading, we look forward to hearing your feedback!
