The resurgence of the Sith was a conflict fought between the Jedi Order and the Sith Order approximately four thousand years before the Clone Wars. It was likely that only due to the desperate nature of the conflict in which the form arose, the Jedi Council recognized the Form VII "Juyo". By the end of the great war against the Sith, many Jedi who practiced Form VII had fallen to the dark side or came perilously close.[1]

In the aftermath of the conflict, with the reckoning clear, the Jedi Council forbade the study of Juyo. Over the following millennia, this prohibition gradually relaxed to an extent. Still, Form VII would never again be practiced by Jedi except those who received express permission from the council or who defied the council's will.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The resurgence of the Sith was first mentioned in the Star Wars canon with the release of Fantasy Flight Games' 2018 sourcebook Knights of Fate.[1]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Form VII was known at least by the time of the Dark Wars and the First Jedi Purge.[2] The Juyo practicioner, Jedi Master Atris, fell to the dark side during the First Jedi Purge.[3] The Star Wars Legends 2010 reference book The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force established that Form VII was restricted following the events of the New Sith Wars during which the use of Juyo caused many Jedi to fall to the dark side and join forces with the Sith.[4] However, the Star Wars canon Knights of Fate attributes this resurgence approximately four thousand years before the Clone Wars as the reason the Jedi Council forbade the study of Juyo in the Order.[1] This may be an error, or a deliberate change.
