The Ordu Aspectu was a splinter group of the Jedi Order that existed long before the Galactic Civil War, until they met their doom at the hands of a rogue artificial intelligence based on one of their founders. Various accounts said their headquarters were located in the Citadel of Rur, and one of their leading members was Rur.[4]

History[]

Jedi sect[]

"After the Entruvia Conflict between the Ordu and the orthodox Jedi, the peace treaty allowed the Jedi to inspect the Ordu's work for signs of dangerous heresy."
―Eternal Rur[1]
Rur and the doom of the Ordu

Rur is attacked by the possessed droids.

At some point, either as part of the original intent of the building or through ulterior additions, the Ordu Aspectu used the Great Temple built by the Massassi on jungle moon of Yavin 4 to store data, including a map room giving directions to the Citadel of Rur.[7] The orthodox Jedi Order and Ordu Aspectu fought in the Entruvia Conflict until a peace treaty was established. The orthodox Jedi were granted permission to study the Ordu's efforts. The Eternal Rur wiped out the Ordu and present orthodox Jedi alike in the attack on Garn.[1]

Legacy[]

"Behold the twilight of the Ordu Aspectu."
―Korin Aphra[1]
Rur OrduAspectu

One account posited that Ordu Aspectu were averse to violence.

The Ordu Aspectu remained obscure in history.[4] The Massassi Group would utilize the Great Temple on Yavin 4 during the Galactic Civil War as a base of operations against the then-dominant Galactic Empire, yet they were unaware of the temple and the surrounding structures' link to the Ordu Aspectu.[8] According to one account, supported by the scholar Korin Aphra, the Ordu Aspectu was a violence-loathing Jedi sect that sought to selflessly prolong life for all. When the orthodox Jedi raided their fortress, the Ordu Aspectu were forced to activate a device that seemingly caused them to disappear, perhaps ascending to a higher form of existence. However, according to Korin's daughter, Chelli Lona Aphra, another version of probable events was that the Ordu Aspectu had kidnapped Jedi Padawan learners, whom they callously sacrificed in an attempt to gain the immortality they sought. However, the effort failed to fill up their matrix. Rur's subsequent attempt to sacrifice his own followers destroyed the station and all aboard. Aphra also stated that the Ordu Aspectu might not have existed at all, and the term might simply have been an argument between Jedi grammarians of more recent years, while BT-1 suggested that the Ordu and their fortress were an enormous astromech droid.[4] Both accounts of the Ordu's fall[4] were incorrect.[1]

Aspectu puzzle

A map room in the Great Temple on Yavin 4.

Aphra undertook a raid to the Great Temple on Yavin 4 at the behest of her father, in order to obtain specific coordinates, which the senior Aphra believed would lead them to the lost Ordu Aspectu at the Citadel of Rur.[4] However, when Chelli Lona Aphra's crew arrived at the Massassi Site, they regretted to find that the Site was occupied and under investigation by multiple platoons of the Galactic Empire's Martial Forces under the command of Captain Magna Tolvan. While Aphra's crew distracted Imperial forces, Aphras infiltrated the temple and inserted Massassi piece crystals in the map room to activate the temple system.[9] As her father took the readings he needed to locate the Citadel, Aphra and the rest of the crew began to leave, confronting Imperial troops along the way. The Ark Angel II arrived and picked them up and left Yavin 4 before making a hyperspace jump to the coordinates of the Citadel of Rur.[10]

Fortress of Garn

The Citadel of Rur.

Once in the Citadel of Rur, as her father examined the remains of the Jedi, Aphra was able to gather several lightsabers from the remains. During the twilight of the Ordu Aspectu, Aphra's father was able to turn on the Citadel's generator using most of his remaining Massassi piece crystals. While the group traveled in search for the Citadel's computer core, they discovered Lupin Tutax's theory that civilians once lived among members of the Ordu Aspectu was true. Once they reached the core, the Eternal Rur was finally awakened by the Aphras, who had managed to reactivate the computer using a crystal found on the body of Rur. Upon regaining consciousness, the Eternal Rur immediately enquired what year it was.[2] When he learned from his visitors that well over a thousand years had passed, the artificial intelligence was incensed as he could not punish the dead for the wrong he felt had been done to him, so the Eternal Rur decided to act out his revenge on the Aphras instead.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Ordu Aspectu were first mentioned in the second issue of the Marvel comic book series Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, written by Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Kev Walker.[4]

Their leader being called Rur and their fortress's location on Garn[4] harkens back to the Order of the Terrible Glare, which was created by Alan Moore for the 1982 Legends comic story Blind Fury!.[11] It should be noted that a canon version of the Order of the Terrible Glare has been mentioned in Jason Fry's 2015 novel Servants of the Empire: The Secret Academy,[12] but no connection between it and Ordu Aspectu has been established.

Build the Millennium Falcon Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon 23 (Guide to the Galaxy: Yavin 4's Massassi Temple) established that the Great Temple on Yavin 4 was built around 5000 BBY.[13] However, Doctor Aphra (2016) 3 and Helmet Collection logo small Star Wars Helmet Collection 76 (Databank A-Z: Yavin 4) establish that Ordu Aspectu,[9][7] which according to Star Wars: Timelines existed around 20,000 BBY before their defeat,[5] used the Great Temple to store data.[9][7]
