"Mom! How was Quence?"
"It's good to see you, sweetie. Quence was a success; we got what we went for and a little extra."
―Zyle Keem and Tanana Keem, following the heist[1]

In 229 BBY, the pirate Tanana Keem's crew executed a heist on Quence to steal a shipment of rejuve on the astronomical object Quence, the price of which had skyrocketed due to the ongoing conflict between the Nihil marauders and the Galactic Republic. After departing from the Nihil captain I'nah's cruiser in their ships, the Venomed Scabbard and the Grim Devourer II, the pirates successfully completed the endeavor and acquired the goods they had sought and some additional surplus. Following the Quence heist, Keem's crew traveled to the Outer Rim planet Valo and assisted her child's newly formed crew, the Scarlet Skulls, with their raid of the research vessel Innovator.

Prelude[]

"No. You are staying here while my crew and I set out for Quence. Thanks to the Nihil's war with the Republic, the black-market price for medical supplies has skyrocketed. There is a shipment of rejuve headed there this week, which we're gonna steal. Then we are going to come right back here, where we will find you exactly where we left you. Do you understand?"
―Tanana Keem, to Zyle Keem aboard I'nah's cruiser[1]

Tanana Keem opted to not allow her child Zyle Keem (pictured) to come with her crew on the Quence heist.

Due to the ongoing conflict between the Nihil marauders and the Galactic Republic, the price of rejuve and other medical supplies had sharply risen throughout the galaxy. During this time, the pirate Tanana Keem led a crew of pirates, including Therm Scissorpunch, Coromont Vizzle, Drrn, Dexter Jettster, Abadoo, and Rado, operating off the starships Grim Devourer II and Venomed Scabbard.[1]

Keem's crew worked within the Nihil-controlled Occlusion Zone—a region separated by the Stormwall hyperspace barrier from the rest of Republic-controlled space—in the Outer Rim to conduct numerous raids, often liaising with the Nihil captain I'nah's cruiser to prepare for their raids, gather information, and barter goods. After learning about a shipment of rejuve headed to the terrestrial celestial body Quence[1] in 229 BBY,[2] Keem and her crew made plans to steal it. Before departing for the heist on Quence, Keem left her child, Zyle Keem, aboard I'nah's cruiser to gather information and remain safely out of the way. Zyle was displeased—having hoped to jump on top of a hovertrain during the upcoming endeavor.[1]

The heist[]

"Listen up, everyone. Drrn and I will take the Grim Devourer II and head to Quence. Everyone else, you're on the Venomed Scabbard. We'll meet up after dropping out of hyperspace. Do not go in by yourselves. We don't want a repeat of what happened on Ryloth."
"Everybody here still has their arms. Was it really that bad?"
"See you all on Quence."
―Tanana Keem and Coromont Vizzle[1]

Tanana told her associates to stay together on Quence, not wanting the heist to end similarly to the crew's previous incident on[1] the Outer Rim planet[3] Ryloth. Afterward, Tanana and her crew departed the Nihil vessel aboard the Venomed Scabbard and the Grim Devourer II, jumping to hyperspace to reach Quence. The crew then reconvened after leaving hyperspace and began the raid, with Scissorpunch losing a pincer in the process. The group managed to steal the shipment of rejuve they had been after, leaving the astronomical object with some additional cargo as well.[1]

Aftermath[]

"My mom has great timing, is what it is. She and the crew just got back from Quence, and I figured this is a pretty dangerous mission, so we might need some help. And who better to help us than the best pirates in the galaxy!"
―Zyle Keem to the Scarlet Skulls before the Innovator raid[1]

Following the heist's completion, Tanana contacted Zyle and informed them of the raid's completion, despite the mother's disappointment that her child had left the Nihil cruiser and traveled to the Outer Rim planet Valo, a world under Nihil occupation. After the crew met Zyle on Valo, Tanana elaborated on the group's time on Quence to inform her child about how it had gone. Zyle, meanwhile, convinced their mother's crew to help their newfound crew—the Scarlet Skulls, consisting of Padawan Ram Jomaram and Jedi younglings Gavi, Kildo, and Tep Tepraid the research vessel Innovator in exchange for part of the medical supplies salvaged from the vessel during the endeavor.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The heist was mentioned in Escape from Valo, a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[4]
