Relationships

Family[]

Oji Harima[]

Although not that much is known about his relationship with Oji, Atsuhiro appears to hold great respect towards his great-great-grandfather. He also holds great pride in being related to Oji. For that reason, Atsuhiro is dedicated to carrying on Oji's legacy by joining the League to fight against such a corrupted hero society and wealthy heroes, exposing the injustices of hero society.[1]

League of Villains[]

Tomura Shigaraki[]

Mr

Mr. Compress and Tomura Shigaraki.

Mr. Compress appears to have a sense of loyalty to Tomura Shigaraki and the rest of the League. He is dutiful in carrying out objectives. During the forest training camp, Mr. Compress captures not only Katsuki Bakugo but also Fumikage Tokoyami, believing him to be beneficial to the group after seeing Dark Shadow's rampage take out Moonfish.[2] When Katsuki is rescued during the All Might and All For One battle he is the first to respond that they can't let him escape and asks who has a long-range attack, knowing how much Tomura wants to keep Katsuki.[3] When Mr. Compress lost his arm to Overhaul, Tomura quickly ran in to attack Overhaul and avenge his ally.

Atsuhiro follows Tomura's commands and doesn't hesitate to aid him in battle, as seen when the League was battling Gigantomachia for over a month.[4] He knows that Tomura is the key to the League's happiness and sees him as more valuable than himself. He believes that his leader is worthy enough to carry on his great-great-grandfather's legacy and goal, entrusting him with it.[1]

Vanguard Action Squad[]

He acts as overseer for the other members. He regularly contacts them after All Might defeats All For One in the Kamino Incident causing the League to disperse to avoid capture.[5] Mr. is usually the voice of reason in the League, just like the time where he advised against engaging the Meta Liberation Army, considering their number advantage. Although he doesn't show it often, Atsuhiro himself admitted that he's always loved the League, as it was a bunch of people who didn't care about each other's past and cared only about themselves.[1]

Himiko Toga[]

Himiko Toga and Compress

Mr. Compress and Himiko Toga.

Atsuhiro acts like a father figure or overseer towards Toga. He often takes time to explain things to her such as when she asked about what Yakuza was and the difference between them and the League.[6] He tends to call himself "Old man" when talking to Toga and doesn't hesitate to pay her compliments. When Mr. addresses Toga, he usually calls her "Dear".

The moment the Paranormal Liberation War began, Toga and Mr. Compress were walking around in a corridor in the villa and were both caught off-guard by a hero, who apprehended them. However, Twice appeared and saved them, but melted away, prompting Toga to go on a suicidal killing spree, while Mr. Compress tried to stop her from doing such a dangerous act.

When the Paranormal Liberation Front's lieutenants were riding on Gigantomachia's back and Toga was pensive, while standing on the edge, Compress told her to be careful and guessed correctly that she was thinking about the U.A. Students she loves. When Toga was about to jump off Gigantomachia, Mr. Compress told her to stop because it's dangerous, showing that he genuinely cares for her life.[7]

Twice[]

Twice talking with Mr. Compress.

Mr. Compress had a sense of good camaraderie with Twice, as shown when he was saved by him during the Paranormal Liberation War, he was joyed to see him and truly believed that he would turn the tide of battle. When the clone started disappearing, he realized that Twice was killed, and showed signs of grief and shock seeing his teammate die.[8]

However, it is to be noted that Mr. Compress criticized Twice for being too attached and "buddy-buddy" to people when Twice insisted that the League go and save Giran despite the danger.[9] He also noted how Twice would fight for his friends, since that's what Heroes usually do, and he was still a villain.[10]

Like the whole League, Twice thought of Mr. Compress as a true friend.[11]

Dabi[]

Dabi and Atsuhiro

Mr. Compress and Dabi during the Revival Celebration.

Dabi and Mr. Compress seem to have good camaraderie as they've teamed up on a few occasions. One of the notable team-ups involved them both using their Quirks to take down Snatch when confronting Overhaul. They have some kind of sarcastic relationship, as seen during the Revival Celebration, where Compress asked Dabi for his aid, but he declined the request, prompting Compress to ask why is he so unfeeling, while in reality, Dabi noticed Twice's clones coming to the rescue. Dabi also enjoys mocking Compress when the opportunity comes by, notably when he calls the latter out for doing nothing during the clash against the Meta Liberation Army, to which Atsuhiro replies acknowledging the fact and sarcastically brushing it off.[12]

Mr. Compress also seems to like returning the mocking right back at Dabi, when the latter carelessly burned Kamui Woods and Midnight, ignoring the fact that Midnight was still going to put Gigantomachia to sleep, to which Mr. quickly reacts. Mr. scolds Dabi for underestimating the Heroes, leaving him with an unamused expression on his face.

He was shocked to learn Dabi is the eldest son of Endeavor, remarking he had quite the story.[13]

Spinner[]

Spinner and Mr. Compress appear to be on good terms, though they rarely interact with each other. Mr. Compress is also included in the same regiment of the Paranormal Liberation Front as him.

During the Paranormal Liberation War, Mr. Compress tried to stop Himiko from jumping off Gigantomachia and Spinner then proclaimed that the League is like a family, so she should return to them, to which Atsuhiro didn't object. Later, Compress calls Spinner quite officially, as an associate, but later admits that he actually loves the League. He also understands that Spinner is a much closer follower of Tomura than him and entrusts him with waking Tomura up.

Magne[]

While Mr. Compress didn't show any trace of a close relationship with Magne, he was the first to react when Overhaul killed her which cost him an arm.

Paranormal Liberation Front[]

Aside from the former League of Villains lieutenants, Mr. Compress hasn't shown much interaction with the former Meta Liberation Army members.

Skeptic[]

Skeptic and Compress

Skeptic and Mr. Compress.

Mr. Compress doesn't have any serious relationship with Skeptic and doesn't treat him seriously, as he calls him "long-hair", while asking him a favor. Tomoyasu, in return, seems to treat Compress in a condescending way, complaining about his lack of sophistication when it comes to modern technology.[7]

Despite this, Mr. Compress can still have a normal conversation with him.[14] He also appears to value Skeptic as a team member enough not to abandon him when the latter was begging for rescue.[1] Mr. Compress then puts Skeptic's marble in Spinner's scarf, allowing him to escape.[15]

Geten[]

Although the two didn’t interact much, they were enemies upon meeting when the League of Villains and Meta Liberation Army were engaged in battle. Mr. Compress was present during Geten’s battle against Dabi where he was shocked by their power and lack of restraint. When Geten summoned a large amount of ice to obliterate the Twice clones, Mr. Compress was shocked by Geten’s willingness to sacrifice his allies.[10]

Upon the formation of the Paranormal Liberation Front, Mr. Compress and Geten became allies.[12]

Following the Paranormal Liberation War, Mr. Compress and Geten were placed in cells next door to each other in prison lockup. It is here where Geten tells Mr. Compress about the history of the Himura family and how he was one of them. Geten was open to chat with Mr. Compress further, saying that there’s nothing to do but kill time until the Final War ends.[16]

Shie Hassaikai[]

Overhaul[]

Mr. Compress loathes Overhaul after he destroyed his left arm while trying to stop him. After the fall of the Shie Hassaikai and the capture of Overhaul, the League assaults the police van transporting Overhaul to a hospital. Tomura tells Overhaul he hates his "high and mighty" attitude. Mr. Compress agrees with the statement and compresses part of Overhaul's left arm, severing it at the wrist as an act of retribution.[17]
