Kong's axe is a enormous battle axe used by Kong in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Appearance[]

The 207.4 foot long axe[1] is constructed from the remains of dead Titans, with most of its parts being sourced from a deceased Titanus Gojira. An extremely lengthy bone serves as its handle, while the blade is sourced from the dorsal plate of a Gojira and kept firmly held in place with wrappings of Gojira scales. When charged with radiation, the blade glows a bright blue and the handle glows a soft red.

Capabilities[]

  • Energy absorption: The axe is capable of absorbing and even storing both the energy radiating from the Earth's core as well as Godzilla's atomic breath to augment its strength.
  • Energy redirection: The axe can then release its stored energy when striking an object with sufficient force, which will produce a tremendous blast.
  • Defense bypassing: The axe is sharp enough to pierce through Godzilla's armored scales and the metallic body of Mechagodzilla, although it took some time and some of Godzilla's atomic breath. The axe can also be thrown to inflict damage and its side can shield against focused attacks.
  • Illumination: The axe emits a blue glow when it is at the proximity of an energy source, thus allowing it to become a torch in dark locations.

Limitations[]

  • Limited defense: In response to Shimo's initial blast, Kong instinctively wielded the axe as his means of defense. However, the protective barrier provided by the axe was only temporary and had a limited duration, leaving Kong exposed to the elements. The brief span of protection proved inadequate, as Kong's arm began to succumb to the freezing temperatures, resulting in the onset of frostbite.

History[]

Godzilla vs. Kong[]

While exploring the Hollow Earth, Kong found the axe embedded in the skull of an unidentified Hollow Earth Titan inside his ancestors' stronghold. Kong would proceed to use the axe in his second battle against Godzilla to great effectiveness. The axe allowed Kong to block and absorb Godzilla's atomic breath before using the absorbed energy to land a decisive blow on the reptilian Titan, knocking him unconscious for a brief minute. The strike was predicted by many to eliminate Godzilla once and for all. However, Godzilla managed to recover and disarm Kong of the axe and defeated him, securing his place as Alpha Titan. When Mechagodzilla attacked, Kong retrieved the axe and used it to fight alongside Godzilla. But since the axe's energy had been depleted, it was unable to do any lasting damage to the mecha. Fortunately, as Mechagodzilla attempted to kill Kong, Godzilla fired his atomic breath at the axe, recharging it and allowing Kong to dismember Mechagodzilla before destroying the mecha for good by tearing its head off. With the threat eliminated, Kong laid his axe down signaling an end to the feud between his kind and Godzilla's kind, as he and Godzilla acknowledged each other as current allies. Kong would then retrieve the axe and bring it with him into the Hollow Earth, his new home.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire[]

While living in the Hollow Earth, Kong stashed his battle axe beneath a boulder in his den for safe keeping. After returning to his cave from the surface world, where he had a infected tooth removed and replaced by the Titan veterinarian Trapper, Kong retrieved the axe and set out to search for more of his kind. After coming across a cave filled with Titanus Kong skulls, Kong ventures into an uncharted realm of the Hollow Earth. Upon seeing the silhouette of a giant ape, Kong readies his weapon for a battle, but instead finds that it's a juvenile ape named Suko.

After Suko bites Kong's hand and runs off, three other apes jump on Kong, knocking the axe out of his hands. However, the King of Skull Island is not so easily beaten, and soon shrugs them off, before grabbing Suko and using him as a weapon against the three apes. One ape manages to pick up the axe and tries to use it on Kong, but he blocks it and knocks him down, leaving the weapon thrown to the ground once more. Following the skirmish, Kong bellows at Suko to lead him to his lair, taking the axe with him.

Later, Suko enters a lake, intending to trick Kong into being eaten by a Drownviper. Kong employs his battle axe against the serpentine beast, and although initially overpowered, Kong is able to kill and decapitate the Drownviper, throwing its severed head (and his axe) towards a fleeing Suko.

The axe is later used again when Kong challenges Skar King upon witnessing his act of cruelty and evil, with the latter gleefully accepting the challenge and waves his bone whip at Kong's face. Despite Kong's best efforts, Skar King is able to use the whip to disarm him of his axe before using it to strangle the giant ape. Kong recovers, but Skar King then summons Shimo to attack Kong. Kong tries to use his axe to defend himself from her frostbite blast, but is overwhelmed, resulting in Kong having his arm frostbitten and losing his axe once more. At Suko's urging, Kong escapes from the lair, but not before Skar King claims his battle axe as his own.

When Skar King is informed by his minion of the portals leading to the surface, he then takes the axe and forces Shimo to allow him to ride her into battle. Godzilla and Kong soon arrive to clash with them, and Skar King, still with the axe, attempts to attack Kong with it. After a brief struggle, Kong manages to reclaim his axe, but loses it again when he is sucked into a portal taking him to the surface. Suko soon discovers the axe lodged at the portal's opening, and brings it with him to Brazil, where Godzilla and Kong are engaged in combat with Skar King and Shimo. Suko swings the axe down on the crystal that Skar King used to control Shimo, destroying it and causing a massive shockwave that throws all of them back.

After Skar King is defeated, Kong reclaims his axe, returning to the Hollow Earth with Shimo and Suko in tow. With the tyrant ape gone, Kong raises his axe in the air and roars, along with Suko and Shimo, to signify the beginning of a new rule.
