Island Girl is a character that appears in the 2023 Skull Island series as a minor protagonist. Like Jia, she is shown to have a bond with Kong, only much deeper.

History[]

Skull Island[]

At some point between 1973 and 1993, Kong met and befriended the Island Girl, who lived in a village near Skull Island’s shoreline, forming a deep connection between the two of them. She first appears in a flashback during the episode You’re Not a King, You’re Just a Stupid Animal, where she is chased through the jungle by a Skullcrawler. Backed against a wall, the Skullcrawler lunges at her before Kong drops on top of it and impales it through the head with a makeshift spear, killing it. Afterwards, Kong takes the girl in his hand and takes her to the top of a mountain looking over Skull Island and the girl’s village near the shoreline. She talks to Kong about the idea of machines taking over for them and letting them rest for a while.

Later, the girl and Kong, accompanied by the Hawk, come across a canyon with three Killer Chameleons inhabiting it. Kong prepares to drop a boulder on the Chameleons, but the girl yells at him not to do it, and wait for her to warn the inhabitants of her village before they do anything. However, Kong decides to drop the boulder anyway, pinning one of the Chameleons by its tail, and jumps down into the canyon to fight the others. During the fight, one of the Chameleons climbs on the canyon to try and eat the girl, who briefly escapes it after pinning its tongue to the ground with her spear. During Kong’s fight with the Chameleons, the girl ends up falling off the cliff, and Kong attempts to jump up and catch her, but misses her. As she falls, the Hawk swoops down and catches her before attempting to fly her to safety. However, one of the Chameleons manages to latch its tongue onto the Hawk’s foot in an attempt to catch the girl, prompting the Hawk to fly higher into the air and eventually shake it off, causing the Chameleon to fall to it’s death. After the fight, the girl angrily scolds Kong for putting her, himself, and the Hawk at risk. Kong roars at her in anger, to which she roars back at him, declaring that he wasn’t a king, just a stupid animal, before Kong stormed off in anger.

At a later point, Kong attempted to make amends with the girl by dropping a fruit tree in her village, but the girl claims she doesn’t need it and ushers him away, causing him to leave in frustration. Later, while the girl and some other villagers are fishing, they are attacked by the Kraken. Kong arrives after hearing the girl’s screams, but is too late, with the village being destroyed and the inhabitants slaughtered, their corpses lining the beach. Kong finds the girl buried under the remains of a boat, covered in sting marks from the Kraken’s tentacles, barely alive. Kong scoops her up and brings her to his temple. The girl looks up at Kong and smiles weakly, calling him “[her] king” and gently touching his snout before dying from her injuries, leaving Kong to mourn his friend. He takes her body to the top of the mountain and buries her there, keeping her necklace in his temple to remember her by.
