Jackson Barnes is a soldier character who first appeared in the 2019 MonsterVerse film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Personality[]
Barnes grew up a monster movie fan and getting a job in law enforcement. From his love of monster movies, he served time on many seagoing vessels all for the chance to see Godzilla up close, referring to him as "the Big Guy". He takes his job as a G-Team soldier seriously as he enters situations involving Titans, and seeks to not let them become someone else's problem.
History[]
Before Godzilla: King of the Monsters[]
Having desired to protect and serve for most of his life, Barnes attended the Georgia Military School and became an expert in munitions and heavy explosives. He spent most of his career on vessels developing an interest in the creatures in the sea. When the chance to try out for Monarch's military defensive wing, the G-Team, Jackson leaped at it and the agency activated him on February 3, 2015, alongside Lauren Griffin and Anthony Martinez.
As Godzilla sightings became few and far between, Jackson requested nightly shifts for a chance to see "the Big Guy", and not long after, his persistence was rewarded. His interest and expertise in field testing proto-ordinance led to Jackson's first assignment under G-Team leader, Colonel Diane Foster, as a weapons consultant during ballistic trials for specially-made tracer munitions.[1]

Meeting Mark Russell[]
Barnes attends the briefing on the kidnapping of the Emma and Madison Russell, as well as the theft of the ORCA that was in their possession. He is also present when Mark Russell storms off suggesting to kill all the Titans (including Godzilla), commenting on Mark’s hatred of the Titans.
Encountering the Big G[]
Barnes is later present when Godzilla shows up flashing an intimidation display. Barnes and Anthony Martinez are sent to ready the defense guns on Diane Foster's orders, but is later told by Ishiro Serizawa to stand down.
Battle in Outpost 32[]
Fighting Alan Jonah’s team[]
Barnes is later deployed as part of the G-Team to Outpost 32, where he and his team engages with Alan Jonah's men to prevent the latter from awakening Monster Zero. The G-Team fails, and Barnes makes it out of the Outpost in time to see Monster Zero rising, dropping an F-Bomb in exasperation.
Escaping Monster Zero[]
Barnes and the G-Team attempt to escape in an Osprey but are cut short when Monster Zero's Gravity Beams disable the plane. Luckily, Godzilla arrives in the nick of time and battles Monster Zero, buying time for Barnes and the G-Team to escape. Everyone remaining escapes the ordeal alive when the USS Argo arrives with backup, with the exception of Dr Vivienne Graham, who was killed by Monster Zero while running away.
Encountering Rodan[]
Barnes is later deployed with the G-Team to serve as the evacuation team for Isla De Mara's inhabitants when Rodan awakens. He narrowly survives the carnage Rodan causes by taking cover in a sheltered area with Anthony Martinez, while saving a mother and her child (who is almost swept away). He is later seen in Griffin's Osprey with civilians in tow, requesting for the Argo to allow them to dock. Mark Russell activates the jammed doors by releasing an inactive Osprey, and Barnes thanks him for saving them after boarding the Argo.
Monster Zero's domination and Mothra’s awakening[]
After the use of the Oxygen Destroyer, Barnes and the G-Team retreat as Monster Zero emits an alpha call to wake other Titans and wreak havoc. He is later present when witnessing Mothra's emergence from her cocoon. Upon hearing Ilene Chen's "Queen of the Monsters" statement regarding Mothra, Barnes questions the relationship of Godzilla and Mothra, inquiring on whether it was romantic.
Reviving Godzilla[]
After the revelation that Godzilla was still alive and Monster Zero’s true identity (Ghidorah), Barnes and the G-Team are briefed on Mark Russell’s plan to revive Godzilla with a nuclear warhead. Upon Griffin's inquiry of the plan, Barnes (incorrectly) states that they were bringing back Godzilla from the dead. He, along with a few G-Team members, are among the submarine crew who discovers Godzilla's refuge, and is present when Godzilla re-emerges from the ocean after Ishiro Serizawa's sacrifice revives Godzilla and forces the sub to sea-level.
Boston Showdown[]
Rescuing Madison[]
Barnes, along with Griffin, Martinez, and Mark are sent down to the remains of Fenway Park to search for Madison Russell, who last used the ORCA there. After a fruitless search in the ruins, the team retreats but is halted when Godzilla and Ghidorah’s ensuing battle destroys their Osprey, injuring Griffin’s leg in the process. The team briefly ponders on their next move when Emma Russell pulls up in a Humvee, asking the team to get in.
Presented with no other choice, the team obliges and Emma drives off. Barnes and Martinez tend to Griffin’s wound but have to put up with Mark and Emma’s heated argument. Exasperated, Barnes finally joins in the argument, stating that he would have run off too if he had Mark and Emma as parents. Angered, Emma jams the brakes and asks Barnes to repeat his remark, which he does, unintentionally giving the couple an idea of Madison’s current location.
Emma and the team arrive at Mark and Emma’s former home, and immediately starts shouting Madison’s name in a bid to locate her. Mark discovers Madison’s body and the team successfully resuscitates her. Mark, Emma and Madison work together to repair the ORCA and succeed, and an extraction team arrives. The team board the Osprey with Madison in tow while Emma stays behind to draw Ghidorah away from a seemingly lifeless Godzilla.
Ghidorah’s death[]
Barnes and everyone present in the Osprey successfully escape the battlefield, and witnesses Ghidorah’s death at the hands on Godzilla in his Thermonuclear Form.
