You are a part of this screwed-up, beautiful place!

Evie is a main character and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's Tales of the Walking Dead. She is the deuteragonist of the episode "Evie / Joe".

Overview[]

Evie is a capable, resourceful, clever, witty, and idealistic survivor whose views on the world are strangely optimistic and hopeful despite the the current state of it. Though she has been through rough times, she never lets it keep her down and always finds a way to keep moving forward.

When Evie is first encountered, she captures Joe in a booby trap she created. She captures Joe and plans on stealing his bike to find her estranged husband, Steven. Despite this, Evie has a very jovial and friendly attitude towards Joe and is not aggressive or hostile towards him. She makes sure Joe knows that she isn't going to screw him over and tells him the benefits he'll get from helping her. Since Evie realizes she can't drive Joe's bike, she forces him to drive while pointing a gun at him. Evie is shown to be a very talkative and personable individual, sparking up many conversations with Joe all while making many humorous quips. At one point, Evie looks through Joe's journal much to his dismay. She apologizes to him for prying into his personal business.

Evie and Joe eventually begin to trust each other and form a friendship. The two are forced to work together to take down walkers. Evie is shown to be a very skilled fighter, since she had studied capoeira, a type of martial art. Evie and Joe eventually stop at some buildings and bond some more. However, while they are distracted, a survivor sneaks up and steals Joe's bike. Since she was an animal shelter employee before the outbreak, rather than trying to catch the thief, Evie instead cares for the lamb they left behind. Joe grabs Evie's gun to shoot the thief, however it's revealed that it hasn't been loaded the entire time. Joe becomes angered by his bike being stolen and blames Evie. He begins to berate her about her mission to find Steve, which prompts Evie to call Joe out about him being lonely since he had plenty of opportunities to ditch Evie.

Evie and Joe separate after their fight and Evie eventually finds Steve's cabin. She is pleased to find that he had painting a picture of her. Though she doesn't actually find him, she is at peace and hopes that he made it. Despite leaving on bad terms, Evie goes back for Joe who is currently at a bunker belonging to Sandra, the person who Joe was trying to find. Inside Joe has been drugged and tied up by Sandra. Sandra attempts to do the same to Evie, offering her the same brownies. However, Evie shows that she isn't naive and is quite intelligent, as she figures that Sandra is up to no good since it's shady that she gave her food without telling her and knows she has been lying the entire time. Evie manages to use her fighting skills to subdue Sandra and saves Joe's life.

Evie and Joe are opposites in many ways. His whole life, Joe has been preparing for the apocalypse which has caused him to be quite lonely. Evie on the other hand tries to live life to the fullest. She has stated she has many happy memories from before the outbreak that keep her going and after it began, she still finds things to enjoy about the world. By the end of the episode however, Joe realizes that Evie was right about him and starts to regret wasting his life. Evie encourages Joe to start living his life to the fullest.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Location Unknown[]

For most of her adult life, Evie engaged in the hippy lifestyle. She only ate organic food, grew and smoked her own weed plants, collected crystals, studied capoeira, worked at an animal shelter, and possessed deep spiritual beliefs. At one point, her aunt gave her a convertible Saab. She also attended a macramé intensive in Big Sur, as well as an inner-discovery retreat where she met her husband, Steven.

Not long before the outbreak, Evie and Steven ran into marital problems when Evie's friend started an organic farm that she was interested in helping with. Steven gave her an ultimatum and told her if she left, their marriage was over. However, she left anyways and the couple separated.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Hamilton, Ohio[]

Within the first thirteen months of the outbreak, Evie holed up in a cabin near Hamilton, Ohio. She set up various traps, such as a spike strip to stop oncoming travelers, and a net trap attached to a bell in an effort to steal a vehicle. She planned on traveling to her ex-husband's family cabin in order to search for him, and later to her friend's organic farm for refuge.

Season 1[]

"Evie / Joe"[]

In the middle of the night, while Joe is driving, his tires get popped by some spikes. Joe walks away when suddenly he is caught in a booby trap which puts him in a net. Evie approaches the net and kills a walker about to bite Joe. Evie forces Joe to cuff himself before freeing him. Evie takes Joe captive in her house and she explains her situation. She plans on stealing Joe's bike, though she does tell him of some benefits he'll get in exchange. However, Evie is unable to drive it since Joe has a killswitch, so she forces him to drive her to her destination. Joe remains uncooperative despite Evie's attempts to be friendly. She gifts him a necklace to wear which she puts on him. Joe and Evie hop on his bike and drive off, with Evie holding Joe at gunpoint.

On the road, Joe and Evie still don't trust each other. When Joe stops to go pee Evie forces him to put on handcuffs. Joe then puts on headphones and plays music so he doesn't have to hear Evie. Joe starts to sing along with the song and Evie attempts to join in. However, one glare from Joe gets her to stop. Eventually they stop for the night. Evie starts going through Joe's bag to see who he really is. When Evie grabs Joe's journal, he becomes angered and tells her to stop. Evie starts reading Joe's messages with Sandra. Evie apologizes for prying into Joe's business and reveals she's also looking for someone like he is. Joe doesn't answer and instead lies down to get some rest. Evie puts a blanket on him to keep him warm.

The next day, the two go on the road again. Evie looks at the sunset sky in amazement, something Joe once did, and says how there's still magic in the world. Joe initially answers in a very cynical manner, but apologizes. That night, when the two stop to sleep again, walkers surround them. Joe asks for Evie to take off the cuffs since there are too many walkers to handle by herself. After some hesitation, Evie throws Joe a weapon, though still remains handcuffed. The two fight the walkers and Evie demonstrates her martial arts skills. Now having formed a trust, Evie gives Joe the keys to uncuff himself. The next day, Joe teaches Evie how to drive the motorcycle and start to bond with each other. This time, the both of them happily sing along with the song together.

The two stop for the night again, with Joe finding a drink. Joe starts asking Evie where exactly he's taking her and finds out their destinations are only 10 miles apart. Joe questions Evie's optimism in the apocalypse, and she states that the apocalypse made her into who she is. Evie starts talking about her ex-husband Steven and her hopes of finding him. Joe then gives Evie his journal to see if she can figure out where the person he's looking for is.

The next morning, Joe starts up his bike when Evie calls for him. Evie reveals that she figured out where user USHLDBSCRD is. Joe is ecstatic over the news and laments about how this is the longest he has spent with another person in years. However, while they are talking, a man steals Joe's bike and leaves behind a lamb with a sign saying, "Thanks for the bike." Joe grabs Evie's gun and aims at the thief. However, the gun is unloaded, allowing the man to get away.

The two continue down the road, now having to go on foot. Joe is saddened at the loss of his possessions. Joe blames Evie for their situation and the two begin to argue. Joe calls Evie's mission to find Steven foolish and believes that he should've ditched Evie. However, Evie calls him out saying that he plenty of opportunities to get away but didn't because deep down, he's lonely and that his world never got started since he was always preparing for the end of the world. Not wanting to hear anymore, Joe walks away from Evie and they go their separate ways.

Evie eventually finds her way to Steven's cabin. She enters but finds nothing but Steven's paintings. She looks through them and finds Steven had painted one of her. Though disappointed she didn't find him, she is left satisfied, saying, "I hope you made it."

Evie decides to go back for Joe. As Sandra is about to kill Joe, the alarms go off. Sandra looks and sees Evie at the entrance. Sandra accuses Joe of wanting to take the place for him and Evie before tying him up to a pole. She wipes the makeup off her face to give herself a presentable appearance. Sandra lets Evie in and puts on a friendly façade. Sandra gives her the drugged brownie she had used on Joe, which Evie pretends to take a bite out of. Evie asks about Joe and Sandra pretends not to have seen it. Evie sits down and Sandra prepares to kill her. However, Evie calls Sandra out on her lies, calling it shady to give food to someone without asking. Sandra takes out her knife but Evie uses her fighting skills to overpower her. Right before Evie frees Skipper, she hears Joe in the other room and goes in to free him. Just then, Sandra charges at the two of them, prompting Joe to throw a cleaver into her chest, killing her. Evie asks if they can leave and realizes Joe had eaten the brownie. Joe, Evie, and Skipper exit the bunker, with Evie trying to push them out. A now reanimated Sandra walks over to them. They almost make it out but Sandra grabs Evie's foot. Joe closes the door on Sandra's hand, causing her to lose her grip on Evie. Joe asks if Evie found Steven, to which she answers, "No, but that's okay." Joe is still high from the brownie and starts bursting out laughing.

The next morning, Evie wakes up with Skipper in her late but no sign of Joe. However, Joe then appears and walks over to her, much to her relief. Joe thanks Evie for coming back to save him and the two hug. Joe admits that Evie is right and that he wasted his life preparing for the end. Evie encourages Joe, telling him his life isn't over and he can start fresh with her. Evie, Joe, and Skipper happily walk down the road on foot, with Evie asking what they should name the lamb and Joe finally giving him his name.
