- "That lake's karkin' massive, man. Practically an inland sea, isn't it? And deeper than your mum's best ghoatmeal cauldron."
"I don't have a mum. And if I did, she wouldn't cook ghoatmeal." - ―I'nah and Niv Dendrow Apruk about Lake Lonisa
Ghoatmeal was a type of food that could be prepared in cauldrons[1] and partially shared its name with ghoats.[2] In 229 BBY,[3] the Nihil marauder captain I'nah and the Nihil scientist Niv Drendow Apruk discussed the latter's wish to salvage the Innovator—a state-of-the-art Republic research vessel—from where it had crashed in Lake Lonisa on the Outer Rim planet Valo. Though the captain felt such a feat was impossible—comparing the lake's depth to his mother's best ghoatmeal cauldron—Apruk indicated he did not have a mother, but if he did, she would not cook the dish.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Ghoatmeal was mentioned in Escape from Valo, a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[4]
