Fortnite is a video game developed and published by Epic Games. Several of its updates have included Star Wars content, beginning with the Fortnite X Star Wars event which occurred in the Battle Royale mode to promote Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker between December 14, 2019 and January 7, 2020. Since then, new Star Wars cosmetics have been added periodically, and Fortnite has hosted entire Star Wars limited-time events such as "Find the Force" and "Skywalker Week." As Fortnite has expanded into a game platform and debuted other game modes like Fortnite Festival, LEGO Fortnite, and Rocket Racing, special Star Wars content has been added to these modes as well. Some Star Wars cosmetics are also compatible with the Save the World and Creative game modes.

In the world of Fortnite, an alternate version of the Star Wars universe exists as an adjacent reality to the several realities that the game's various modes take place in, and crosses over with them. This makes the Star Wars universe one of the many realities spawned from the Zero Point and connects it to the game's larger continuity. The Star Wars reality formerly crossed over with Reality Zero before the latter's collapse during the events of The Big Bang.

Star Wars content[]

Fortnite X Star Wars[]

The Fortnite X Star Wars event occurred between December 14, 2019 and January 7, 2020 to promote the third and final sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, which released on December 20, 2019. The crossover event was first announced on December 8[3] and on December 12 the first Star Wars cosmetics were released in the form of skins for Finn, Rey, and a Sith trooper.[4]

Chapter 2: Season 5[]

Chapter 2: Season 5 began on December 2, 2020, and conluded on March 15, 2021. Although not centered around Star Wars, the season included various The Mandalorian content such as a Din Djarin cosmetic skin. Players were able to complete challenges to upgrade his normal armor to the beskar armor he uses in the show. They could also obtain a Grogu pet, and the Razor Crest.[5] When a user made a purchase during the first month of the season, they were able to receive two free months of Disney+.[6] It was the second Star Wars crossover with Epic Games, the first being the Fortnite X Star Wars event.[7]

Din Djarin appeared in the map, carrying a Jetpack, E-11 Blaster Rifle, and an Amban Sniper Rifle, hostile to players nearby. When the NPC sighted a player, he would engage them, the battle scored by a remix of the score from his titular show. The Jetpack and Amban Sniper Rifle were dropped by the Djarin NPC when defeated by a player, who could then equip and use them as items. The former enabled the power of flight to a player, though it would run out of power and cease functioning after several seconds before needing to be recharged, which it did automatically when grounded. The Amban Sniper Rifle featured a thermal scope and powerful shots, and a melee mode which damaged oponents with the shock. The E-11 Blaster Rifle was unusable for players other than the Din Djarin NPC, and despawned along with him upon his defeat.[source?]

Accepting Ahsoka's training and entering her Rift Gate would grant players the Jedi Training Lightsaber Mythic weapon and allow you to use special Force abilities.[15]

Star Wars Day 2024[]

A Star Wars Day celebration event began across the Fortnite universe on May 3, 2024, and will conclude on May 14, 2024. Notably the first Star Wars collaboration since the launch of the LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, and Rocket Racing game modes on the Fortnite platform, the event brought Star Wars content to all of these modes in addition to Battle Royale. Each mode had its own special Star Wars Quests which could be completed for rewards.[16]

In LEGO Fortnite, a new "Rebel Adventure" was added, introducing the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire to the LEGO world. Players could assist the Rebels by building up the Rebel Village and defending it from the Empire using the new Lightsaber, Bowcaster, DL-44 Blaster, E-11 Blaster, and Thermal Detonator weapons. The "Rebel Adventure" LEGO Pass included unlockable rewards including Star Wars-themed LEGO builds and the exclusive new Chewbacca outfit obtained via the Premium Reward Track.[16]

In Battle Royale, Chewbacca was introduced on the Island, where he was captured by the Empire. Players could save Chewbacca by going to a specific Imperial Roadblock on the Island, which would change with each match. Once freeing Chewbacca, he would join you in battle as a follower, utilizing his Bowcaster weapon and giving you your own Wookie Bowcaster Mythic weapon as a thanks for freeing him. The Mythic was also available from Imperial Chests located at the various Imperial Roadblocks across the Island. The Darth Vader Boss encounter as well as the Darth Vader's Lightsaber and E-11 Blaster Mythic weapons also returned.[16]

In Fortnite Festival, "Cantina Band" by John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra was added as a playable Jam Track. The Jam Stage was also changed to resemble the Mos Eisley Cantina, and completing seven of the mode's Star Wars Quests would award players with a Seven-string Hallikset guitar.[16]

In Rocket Racing, completing May the Fourth Quests and Star Wars Quests would unlock the Anakin's Podracer and Darth Maul vehicle decals and the Energy Binders trail.[16]

Additionally, a variety of Star Wars cosmetics were added to the Item Shop, including the Dagobah Luke, Lando Calrissian, and AWR Trooper skins, the Beskar car body, including decals based on Din Djarin, The Armorer, Boba Fett, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Sabine Wren, and the Endorian Drum Kit and Nalargon Keytar instruments.[16]
