—Reiko on his life's worth to Sindel

Biography

  • Mortal Kombat 1: "Reiko was a boy when he and his family were captured during the Kafallah War. Though his family died, Reiko fought and survived. After spending months as a prisoner, Reiko was freed during a raid by General Shao. Despite his youth and small size, Reiko attacked his former captors and exacted bloody revenge. Impressed by the boy’s spirit, General Shao made Reiko his squire. Under his tutelage, Reiko learned the ways of war. He became an exceptional soldier and is now the General’s second-in-command. Reiko's loyalty to General Shao is absolute. He will live and die by his orders."

Storyline

In restarting the timeline, Liu Kang redesigned the destinies of many kombatants he once knew. In doing so, Shao Kahn never becomes Emperor of Outworld and as such, Reiko never becomes the realm's top General, as this is now given to the redesigned Shao Kahn as General Shao, Outworld's top General and finest soldier. The interactions between Reiko and Shao, however, remain in tact but also altered, with Shao taking in Reiko and training him to be a strong, loyal soldier, even becoming Shao's adopted son in the process.

Mortal Kombat 1

Reiko is one of the many kombatants during the Mortal Kombat tournament between Outworld and Earthrealm. He is chosen by General Shao as the next competitor against Raiden, Liu Kang's chosen champion, but is defeated in the tournament. Reiko accompanies Shao after the tournament, where they are disgusted by Kung Lao's poor manners at dinner, in which a drunken Shao mocks the Earthrealmers and is dismissed by Empress Sindel.

As later events transpire, the General seeks to capture the Earthrealmers after a misunderstanding between the Outworld forces and the Earthrealmers. While in Outworld to capture Shang Tsung for questioning, Shao has them captured but they escape and travel through a festival in Sun Do. There, Syzoth creates a diversion, alerting Shao and his men that the Earthrealmers are near. He dispatches Reiko and Li Mei to intercept, with Reiko wounding Syzoth. Reiko and Li Mei are then defeated when Kenshi, one of Earthrealm's champions, intercepts them and saves him.

As further events worsen, Liu Kang seeks to consult with Empress Sindel to prevent all-out war between the realms, revealing to Li Mei that General Shao, his men, along with Shang Tsung seek to usurp the throne, putting Outworld and Sindel at risk. Li Mei agrees and allows Liu Kang into Sun Do to meet with Sindel. Their carriage however is stopped by the General's forces led by Reiko. There, he and Motaro demand Liu Kang's return to Earthrealm, with Li Mei revealing she knows of Reiko's true intentions. After refusing, Reiko and Motaro slaughter Li Mei's forces and Li Mei kombats Reiko and is victorious. Reiko, Motaro and some of the General's men are arrested as Liu Kang and Li Mei continue to the palace.

After the revelation of multiple timelines, Liu Kang forms a new Forces of Light to kombat an alternate version of Shang Tsung that had been meddling with the timeline by bringing in Titans and kombatants from other timelines to aid him in the upcoming battle. Reiko joins neither side due to being in prison, however other timeline counterparts of his participate in the upcoming battle.

Liu Kang arrives in Titan Shang Tsung's timeline with his Forces of Light to battle Titan Shang Tsung's Forces of Darkness. A battle ensues with kombat and death all around. Titan Shang Tsung summons a Titan version of Quan Chi, thus reforming The Deadly Alliance for the battle at hand. As the battle wages to the top of the Pyramid, a good version of the Deadly Alliance briefly fight the Titan Deadly Alliance before being quickly killed. At the top, the Titans fight Liu Kang and an ally, only to be bested by Liu Kang's ally in kombat. Liu Kang uses his Temporal Power to erase both Titans, but in doing so, causes the timeline seemingly begins to collapse. Running out of time, Liu Kang sends his ally back to their respective timeline before doing so with himself.

Back in their timeline, despite helping put an end to Titan Shang Tsung's plans, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, another sorcerer that aided General Shao, are imprisoned with Reiko and the General. This is short-lived, however, and they all escape and go their separate ways, with Reiko remaining at General Shao's side.

Endings

  • Mortal Kombat 1 (Canonical): "With General Shao freed from prison, we began raising a new army against the royal family. Though many were eager recruits, few were good at soldiering. It was so bad, the General was forced to change tactics. He decided that we need a doomsday weapon. That weapon isn’t a thing, though. It is a monster: Onaga, the Dragon King. The General told me the old legends were true. That his ancient ancestor defeated Onaga, trapping him deep inside Mount Tsaagan. The Dragon King is still there today, his pent-up fury waiting to be unleashed. Because Onaga is so dangerous, the General wouldn’t risk trying to tame him before. But now he feels we have no choice. Though I likely won’t survive, I accept this mission gladly. I can think of no greater honor than to give my life in the General’s service."
