Just Want To Say Thanks[]

The contributers at this site have made an excellent achievment in Wookiepedia, it continues to enthrall me! Thanks!

And i'd hate to sound like some nerd but Thank you George Lucas and the authors of the EU! Your tales of that Galxy far, far away inspire new generations!

I confidently say that 100 years from now there will still be Star wars fans and People watching it!

Movie article names[]

I notice that for each movie's article, the title is in the form "Star Wars Episode X: Title of Movie". This seems a bit redundant for a Star Wars wiki; why not shorten it to "Episode X: Title of Movie". The old article names would be redirects, of course. Aidje 10:27, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)

You know...[]

You know what's incredibly sad? The fact that this is Wookieepedia, and of all articles, this one, is one of the least improved since the wiki began (not to mention that fact that, as a direct result, it hasn't been featured here either, which is ever more sad). :( What the hell's wrong with us? This is the defining article of Wookieepedia! We need to get to it with this one! :) Adamwankenobi 07:26, 9 Dec 2005 (UTC)

  • I would like to had links to some character names in the list. The fact Agen Kolar is similar to Star Trek's Worf is cool but... Who is Agen Kolar ? This is H(yper)T(text)ML, so there should be links where they could help understand better the subject. Thus, I believe there is a need for more links here. If there is no disagreement, I'll start to add links on this page some day this week (I'll add Agen Kolar's link now...). Paercebal 18:21, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Sound[]

I don't know where's the best place to ask this question,

In real life, you can't hear in space (you can only hear sounds with in your own ship), to make Star Wars more real, why don't they take out every sound when the camera (what you see from the T.V.) is in space?

Because Lucas likes there to be sound in space. Things work differently in the Star Wars universe. Adamwankenobi 22:33, 13 Dec 2005 (UTC)

They want toshow how big and destructive these battles are. If there were no sounds, it would be boring. -http://uncyclopedia.org/images/1/15/Darth_Cow-Small.PNG --DarthCow--Talk|Email

  • I have to tell my dad that whenever he complains. lol --beeurd 00:15, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Note that if Battlestar Galactica 2004 used more realistic physics for space, there is still sounds in space battle, despite the fact there is no way for sound to exist in space, so it must be something really important for the story and mood... ; p ... Paercebal 18:03, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I can't remember where I heard that, but it once was explained with a device on warships that somehow catches up the sound out in space to give the pilot an idea of where the enemy is

Spoilers[]

Is it really nescerrcery to include the spoiler tag here? It seems a bit silly.

Yeah. I agree. It's not like you wouldn't excpect there to be a lot of Spoilers. –http://uncyclopedia.org/images/1/15/Darth_Cow-Small.PNG --DarthCow--Talk|Email

  • Spoilers should only be for newly released or unreleased material, not older things like the films. -LtNOWIS 21:57, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Major Characters[]

Is Admiral Piett a major character?? I mean, someone who knows a little about Star Wars doesn't know him!!!!!! Axel Shan

Where do you see that he's a major character? Admittedly, Wedge Antilles gets a similar amount of screen time as Piett does, but Wedge's prominence in the EU is enough to tip the scales in his case. Piett is an important character, but not a major one in my opinion. Jwebb13Sith Emblem 00:10, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Star Wars[]

There is no greater achievment then the miracle of Star Wars. You may believe me to be a mindless nerdy fan. But if that is the cost to love this great wonder, then so be it!

The Ultimate Irony[]

When George Lucas first concieved of Star Wars, he intended it to be a happy Sci-Fi tale. But the Star Wars universe has grown to become tragic and complicated, with almost constant wars and deaths and general destruction. user:Darth Vatrir

  • The ultimate irony is that Star Wars have a "larger than life" constant that leads to a serie of deus ex machina, that is, that each story must have greater battles, greater destruction, greater surprises than the last, often, without a real background or explanation. How many giant machines we have in all EU, after the two Death Stars ? (Like Highlander, perhaps there should have been only one...) More seriously, the Ultimate Irony is that Star Wars is a very rich background that remains centered around clones (Luuke, Jarus C'Baoth, Palpatine, etc. etc.) wars against planetary war machines and darksiders finding redemption into the light side. The Skywalker family is too much, too. The father and son should have been enough, but having a whole generational tree... There are so many plots that could be explored, other moods, etc.. This leads, IMHO, to a cheapening of the 6 major episodes. Paercebal 18:15, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
  • You're right. The EU is going to eventually stagnate and run out of ideas. It's exemplified in Star Wars: Legacy, which has the Sith back. ANAKIN DESTROYED THE SITH FOREVER.

And the whole "Cloned emperor" storyline after the Excellent Thrawn trilogy was tedious. They should have just left him dead.

  • Just one thing, you can't destroy the Sith forever. Their not just an order made up of people, but their an idea. And the Sith have been exterminated more than once, and somehow they keep coming back. Look at Exar Kun's story, he ressurected an extinct order by finding one of their holocrons and communicating with dead Sith spirits.

Oh, about Dark Empire and the "Cloned Emperor", I happen to disagree with you. I thought the idea was sound, the comic was good, the story could have been better, but it was still good the way it was. Darth Vatrir

Talk of Previous Books?[]

A person I know has stated that the whole concept of Star Wars was already created by another author (and no we're not apparantly talking Alan Dean Foster here) that wrote up to 20 or 30 books years before the release of A New Hope, that cover the span of all of the movies (Episodes I through VI), including ones with titles like "Clone Wars" and "Return of the Jedi". The person I know stated that it was like Tolkien's LOTR Trilogy and that people who saw the original SW movies in the 70s and 80s knew about these books and compared to them, and that even Lucas himself talked of pre-existing SW books in interviews. I find a majority of this to be false but am keeping an open mind. Was there any allusion that any of this might have happened? -- Riffsyphon1024 17:39, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I think this is one of those urban legends, like the theatrical release of Star Wars with the Biggs scenes included. There are SF novel cycles which predate Star Wars and share similar story elements and themes (Dune, the Foundation series, the Lensmen series, etc.,) but that's hardly the same thing. —Silly Dan (talk) 17:49, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Exactly what I was trying to get across to them. Lucas took much inspiration from previous stories but there was no "Star Wars" before his movie (or the Foster novelization). -- Riffsyphon1024 17:54, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Third Sequel Trilogy[]

Why is there no real mention about the rumored sequels except for brief mention? I remember hearing rumors on TFn that Peter Mayhew had been tapped for more movies, and just today that Harrison Ford told GL "No" to appearing again as Solo. Shouldn't that be in here as well? I don't wanna add it without sources just to have it be erased in 5 minutes... Duke Starhopper 06:00, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

3 Sequals were part of Lucas' vision, but without a doubt it will not happen, as it can't live up to the hype, and it will most likely void the entire Post ROTJ Expanded Universe.

star wars "science fantasy" according to wikipedia[]

Ive been trying to convince the star wars contributers on wikipedia that Star Wars is science fiction not fantasy. If any of you are editors on wikipedia please go there and try to convince them. There is no reason for it to be "science fantasy" (whatever that means).--Nadirali نادرالی

  • Science Fiction generally means a focus on technology that is often explained in an effort to make believable to the audience. Technically speaking, Star Wars has more in common with epic fantasy like Lord of the Rings or Dungeons and Dragons than Star Trek or anything from Ray Bradbury. The fact is, the G-canon movies are entirely focused on traditional heroes, relationships, and the unseen mystical Force that binds everything together. Space Opera, yes. Space Fantasy, if you wanna call it that. Epic Fantasy, for sure, but Science Fiction? I'd say the Expanded Universe offers a lot of sci-fi to the Star Wars realm, but that is more because the authors have personal tastes (like Timothy Zahn's focus on space battles) than with any overall vision by George Lucas. I'd say that Star Wars is such a conglomeration of ideas and genres that Space Opera would really be the only suitable term for it. --Gabeth 20:08, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
    • "Rated PG for Sci-Fi violence"
      • Hardly relevant. That mentions only the violence, and besides, there is no space fantasy or space opera categories to put SW in. DarthMRN 04:08, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
        • Star Wars is not a SF. Can't believe I find such obvious mistake on Wookipedia, when Wikipedia has it right. And even people who want to defend this position. George Lucas said it many times. If you want proof, just watch few first seconds of the any of the episodes: "A long time ago, in the galaxy far, far away...". It's almost classical fairy-tale beginning. There is no scientific background to any of it. There are princes and knights/magicians. I dare you to show me any science in any of the episodes. 83.11.252.120 16:37, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
          • I know this is an old topic but Star Wars is Sci-Fi, Laser Blasters, Aliens, Lightsabers, Space ships, it has the same things in it as Star Trek and ST is Sci-Fi, it would be Fantasy if it did not have Space Ships and the Aliens were all from Earth as Mythical creatures (ie: Centaurs, Giants, ect) and if the Blasters were mid-evil weapons like bow's and arrows, magical swords, ect Chasemarc (talk) 00:43, July 18, 2013 (UTC)

No opening credits[]

I am not sure, but I remembering reading somwhere, that until SW came out in 77, it was the only movie until it's time to not show the credits at the begining. Can anyone back me on this? BobafettH23 18:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Yes, to my knowledge. Yet we will have to do some serious digging into 4-decades old documentaries to find a source. I would suggest we keep records of any SW-related documentaries we find. ---OOM 224 (talk) 06:48, November 8, 2019 (UTC)

Reorganize the "books" section[]

—I think the Books section in the Starwars overview page http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars] here needs a overhaul . I made a smaal change were it said there were "dozens of books" to "nearly 100 books". after rereading the artical several more times, it dawned on me that term books was just to broad. It's used to describe novels in one part and reference material in another, while the whole section seems to imply novels. If one includes ALL books, novels, reference, junior and other books, there several hundred. there should also be a link to the books list page http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_books#Novels] here. I would do this myself, but I am new here and dont want to offend anyone.

I think The Canon/Non-Canon thing should cease[]

Many people are taking this sci-fi Star Wars a bit too seriously as you guys are. I saw this ridiculous video;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfoVJByDZow

This happened about sometime when Celebration IV happened (if I'm correct).

I'm a bit stunned that Christians would go this far. If its true you're taking it as a religion, you should cease. I do agree with this person with one thing; you are putting yourselves in jeopardy. Believe it or not, Star Wars is not that popular as it was used to be. I'm saying its getting so predictable, many of us fans are tiring of whats canon or non-canon.

Since the release of KOTOR, many fans have been debating the genders of "Revan" & The "Jedi Exile" and other characters in other RPG games. If its true the majority of the fans want female Revan/male Exile, JUST GIVE IT TO THEM! And we can end this idiotic matters. If you want Star Wars to last, serve the fans, NOT YOURSELVES!

I'm asking everyone at LucasArts to seriously drop this and get on with your lives. Many things are at stake. And please, I know this violates the rules, for once, please make an exception. Maybe you guys can make separate universes of Star Wars, how bout that? Don't be so predictable in deleting this message. So don't be so biased.

Cheaster

You seem to be talking about several different things here:
  1. There are very few, if any, people on this site who treat Star Wars seriously as a religion. I certainly don't. Many of our other regular contributors are devout Christians, and see no contradiction between their religion and their fandom. Likewise, the man in the linked video does not speak for most Christians.
  2. Lucasfilm and its licensees prefer to settle certain events and facts as canonical in the overall storyline, because they, their writers, and most fans prefer things to have some consistency. This requires, among other things, that all fiction which refers to the storylines of various games has to make a few assumptions about the outcome of the games and the nature of the player-controlled characters. That's all.
  3. If you want to petition Lucasarts or Lucasfilm to do something, asking the users of an unofficial fansite like ours is not the way to go about it. —Silly Dan (talk) 17:19, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

The reason so many people argue things like this is because they don't realize Lucasarts and George Lucas himself tell fans what is true and what is not. And at other times if you use common sense something that happens later on the time line cannot happen if an untrue event.Sorciri 20:21, April 16, 2010 (UTC)Sorciri

Criticisms section[]

There is currently no criticisms section, the article is biased in favour of Star Wars rather than factual. I tried to add a criticisms section, but it was swiftly removed, no doubt by some sweaty fanboy who couldn't take the truth. Wikipedia has a section, and let's face it, Wikipedia are pretty good, so... sort it out. Or at least remove the fanboy elements. For example the quote at the top of the page, fair enough, but where is the quote about how Star Wars is "not that good" or how "the prequels were a massive cash in"? Because I'm pretty sure they exist.Unsigned comment by 81.111.66.4 (talk • contribs).

So what's it gonna be, censor the truth and keep licking George Lucas' butt, or make a balanced article, something we can take a little more seriously than a piece of fan fiction.

  • First off, watch you language. No need to be uncivil here. I removed your section because it was unverified information and was written inappropriately for an encyclopedia. If you provide sources for all your info (Wikipedia does not count) and write in a professional manner, the section can be re-added. Until then, it stays removed. Question about the Numbering of Movies?[]

why is it that in the articles for VII-IX it states that it is the (7, 8, 9) installment for the Star Wars film franchise? when it should be the 8,9, and 10th installment for the Star Wars film franchise, we have had the following Big Screen (IE not a made for TV movie) motion pictures for Star Wars;Star Wars Episode I:The Phantom Menace; Star Wars Episode II:Attack of the Clones; Star Wars: The Clone Wars;Star Wars Episode III:Revenge of the Sith;Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope;Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back; Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi; granted Star Wars: The Clone Wars was not a live action movie, nor was it labeled as an Episode but it still was an installment for the Star Wars FILM franchise, maybe someone should reword it to say installment for the Star Wars LIVE ACTION FILM franchise.Chasemarc (talk) 00:37, July 18, 2013 (UTC)

  • This question is not for the improvement of the article. Please read the Talkheader instructions at the top of this Talk page. —GethralkinHyperwave 06:51, July 18, 2013 (UTC)

per the header above: "This space is used for discussion relating to changes to the article, not for a discussion about the topic in question." my question would change the articles for Star Wars VII-IX, by counting Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a FILM (and it was a film, in theaters, just like the live action ones)Chasemarc (talk) 00:05, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

  • I through VI all had numbers in the titles, The Clone Wars did not. Supreme Emperor (talk) 00:11, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

      • Guys, I think his question is more about the word-numbering of the movies—he means why are we calling Episode VII the seventh movie in the franchise, when TCW was the seventh Star Wars movie released in theaters. Cade GalacticRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit Calrayn 00:20, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

Glitch in the Notes and References section.[]

Hi. The Reflist tag is not showing up, even though it is present (there would be a tag stating it wasn't if it wasn't). Can we try to fix whatever is causing it not to show up? Last time I experienced something like this, it had to do with size margins of galleries, but I'm doubtful that was the case here. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 12:58, July 30, 2013 (UTC)

It appears to be an issue with the filming locations map; or least, the reflist appeared after I moved the Notes and references section to above that section. I'm not sure exactly what the issue is, but I will bug our more technically inclined users to see if there is an answer. - Sir Cavalier of OneFarStar(Squadron channel) 13:12, July 30, 2013 (UTC)
