Jat Kaa was a Lurmen[1] male[2] from the planet Mygeeto[1] who was born between 4 ABY and 14 ABY. Sometime during the war between the First Order and the Resistance in 34 ABY,[2] Kaa was operating an imported drink business called Jat Kaa's Coolers on the Outer Rim world Batuu, where he lived. Through his business, the Lurmen offered ice cold beverages,[1] including Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Dasani,[3] that were as cold as his homeworld.[1] The drinks were sold by employees from mobile carts stationed in Black Spire Outpost and the nearby Black Spire Ruins and operated by[3] R-series astromech droids[1]—J1-KC, J2-KC, J3-KC, J4-KC, and J5-KC[3]—that he purchased from Mubo, a local droid builder,[1] and reprogrammed.[2]
During the First Order's occupation of Batuu[1] in 34 ABY,[4] the historian Eloc Throno mentioned Jat Kaa in his book Traveler's Guide to Batuu.[1]

- "The idea behind who's actually selling the drinks—it's a Lurmen. Carrie Beck of Lucasfilm suggested that. So we were going to build a whole business, as if this Lurmen was driving a vehicle, selling all of these drinks. We were going to build a Lurmen and everything. He's named Jat Kaa. But because you don't see the Lurmen, what he has done is repurposed these droids to be the drivers for the vehicles."

Jat Kaa was created as part of the official backstory for Jat Kaa's Coolers,[5] a trio of mobile soda carts in the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge,[3] which opened to guests at Disneyland Park on May 31, 2019.[6] The idea to have a Lurmen selling drinks came from Carrie Beck at Lucasfilm. Originally, Jat Kaa was planned as a physical prop, but the final decision was to have repurposed droids operate the drink carts.[5]
