- "And you must take a day trip to the to the Holographic Museum of Extinct Animals. There are some truly fascinating creatures on display. I found the mantabog of Malastare to be utterly… Ah. Look at that, here we are. Amnesty Housing."
- ―A taxi droid
The Holographic Museum of Extinct Animals was a museum in Galactic City, the ecumenopolis that covered the planet Coruscant. It displayed several extinct creatures, including the mantabog of[1] the planet[2] Malastare.[1] Around 9 ABY,[3] a taxi droid recommended a day trip to the museum to Doctor Penn Pershing, a new arrival to Corsucant that the droid was driving from the Galaxies Opera House to Amnesty Housing. The droid claimed to have found several of the creatures on display at the museum fascinating and began to speak about the mantabog before the conversation was interrupted by their arrival at the housing's landing bay.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, the Holographic Museum of Extinct Animals was mentioned in "Chapter 19: The Convert," the third episode of the Disney+ show The Mandalorian's third season,[1] which aired on March 15, 2023.[4] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, it was named the Holographic Zoo of Extinct Animals, and first appeared in the 1994 novel Dark Apprentice by Kevin J. Anderson.[5] It was then depicted in the first issue of the Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan: Last Stand on Ord Mantell comic-book series, which was written by Ryder Windham, illustrated by Ramón F. Bachs,[6] and published on December 20, 2000.[7]
