- "And you must take a day trip to the to the Holographic Museum of Extinct Animals. There are some truly fascinating creatures on display. I found the mantabog of Malastare to be utterly… Ah. Look at that, here we are. Amnesty Housing."
- ―A taxi droid
The mantabog was a creature native to[1] the planet[2] Malastare.[1] By around 9 ABY,[3] it was extinct and was one of several creatures on display at the Holographic Museum of Extinct Animals on the planet Coruscant.[1] Around that year,[3] a cabbie droid driving Doctor Penn Pershing from the Galaxies Opera House to Amnesty Housing on Corsucant advised the doctor, who was new to the world, to take a day trip to the museum, as the droid had found several of the creatures there fascinating. The droid began to tell Pershing about the mantabog, but was interrupted by their arrival at their destination.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, the mantabog was mentioned in "Chapter 19: The Convert," the third episode of the Disney+ show The Mandalorian's third season,[1] which aired on March 15, 2023.[4] The creature originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was mentioned in Coruscant and the Core Worlds, a 2003 supplement for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game produced by Wizards of the Coast.[5]
