Glowbugs were a type of bioluminescent bug that could be found on the Outer Rim planet Valo during its warm season.[1] In 229 BBY,[2] several glowbugs flew through Valo's Lonisa City Zoo and cast their fluorescent light to the ground below as the Jedi youngling Gavi and the aspiring pirate Zyle Keem conversed near the former's escape shuttle. At one point, Keem pointed toward the planet's sky, tracing the path of a glowbug.[1]

In the current Star Wars canon, glowbugs appeared in Escape from Valo, a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, glowbugs first appeared in the 1995 novel Children of the Jedi, written by Barbara Hambly.[4]
