Ascencia was a 24th century female Vau N'Akat.

The Vindicator, a future version of Asencia from the 25th century, traveled back in time to the 24th century and became a vengeful tyrant.

Biography[]

Meeting her older self[]

When the Asencia from the future arrived on Solum, she used the presence of her younger self as proof of her claims to be one of the Vau N'Akat while Gwyndala had no such proof for herself. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part II")

The younger Asencia was later present when her future self fought Gwyn in Va'Lu'Rah and emerged victorious. (PRO: "Who Saves the Saviors")

Fighting her older self[]

The younger Asencia supported Ilthuran's uprising against her future self's takeover of Solum. The younger Asencia was horrified by the monster that her future self had become and supported the efforts to stop her. Asencia told Dal R'El, Rok-Tahk, Jankom Pog, Gwyndala, Murf, Zero, and Maj'el how to find Wesley Crusher and Ilthuran after meeting them in Ilthuran's observatory. Asencia took part in the rescue of Ilthuran, Kathon, and Borom and Ilthuran sent her to safety with the elders to seek refuge from the Uprising until the future Asencia could be overthrown. (PRO: "Brink")

The younger Asencia later joined the other Vau N'Akat in lending their strength to Gwyn to defeat her future self, second only to Ilthuran. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part I")

The Vindicator[]

"The multiverse holds a bitter truth, girl. My home, my Solum, was destroyed, and it always will be. So, I will conquer this reality until I have the Solum I want that bends to my will."
– Asencia, 2385 ("Ouroboros, Part I")

Biography[]

Early life[]

At some point in the future in an another timeline, Asencia witnessed the United Federation of Planets making first contact with her planet alongside a Ilthuran, but didn't share his enthusiasm for the opportunities seemingly brought by Starfleet. Years later, she was one of the survivors of the Vau N'Akat civil war caused by their contact with the Federation and witnessed the arrival of the USS Protostar on Solum through a temporal anomaly.

As a member of The Order, she oversaw the installation of the Vau N'Akat's last living construct onboard the captured ship. After the Protostar was remotely sent back somewhen in the past by Captain Chakotay, she was selected as one of the hundred agents sent to recover their weapon through the temporal anomaly. Now known as The Vindicator, she managed to survive the anomaly's collapse unlike the majority of the agents of the Order.

Infiltrating Starfleet[]

Asencia, Trill

Asencia posing as a Trill

The Vindicator and her Drednok arrived in the Alpha Quadrant in 2381 where she decided to infiltrate Starfleet. (PRO: "Preludes") Disguised as the Trill Asencia, the Vau N'Akat female eventually became an ensign and was assigned to the USS Dauntless under Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway when it was sent to look after the missing Protostar in the Delta Quadrant. (PRO: "A Moral Star, Part 2")

Asencia took a special interest in the Diviner when he was brought aboard the Dauntless in a catatonic state. When Doctor Noum was unable to revive the patient, Asencia suggested that the fluid in The Diviner's exosuit was a kind of bio-serum for his species. (PRO: "Asylum", "Let Sleeping Borg Lie") As the Diviner was amnesiac, Asencia assured him there was no obstacle that he could not overcome. On Denaxi, Asencia encountered Gwyndala but her fellow Vau N'Akat fled before she could speak to her. (PRO: "Crossroads") When the Protostar escaped into the Romulan Neutral Zone, Asencia volunteered to follow the ragtag crew despite Starfleet orders and later vehemently opposed Janeway's decision to destroy the Protostar as the Romulans were seemingly about to seize it.

After the near destruction of the Protostar, The Vindicator activated her hidden Drednok and revealed her true nature to the Diviner. (PRO: "Masquerade") She successfully restored the Diviner's memories by recounting to him their shared history, from the Federation's first contact with Solum to their separation during the collapse of the temporal anomaly. However, Admiral Janeway suddenly entered Asencia's quarters while looking for their amnesiac guest and witnessed the Vindicator's true appearance as well as her Drednok before the Diviner knocked her out. (PRO: "Preludes")

When Drednok suggested throwing Janeway out of an airlock, the Diviner stated that her absence would draw unwanted attention. Asencia removed the admiral's combadge and said she'd place it in the admiral's quarters and inform everyone the admiral asked not to be disturbed. She ordered Drednok to erase all data of this event and assured the Diviner that they would complete the mission.

Later, she went to the bridge where Commander Tysess was trying to find a way to close the lead on the Protostar, which was heading towards Federation space. Asencia said they could close gap if they rerouted power from the quantum slipstream – which would allow them to merge their warp fields and lock onto their course. Noum argued that if the Protostar engaged their proto-engine, they'd be torn apart. Asencia pointed out that the proto-drive was offline and reminded Tysess that the admiral did not want them to lose the ship.

When Asencia reported that the Protostar was heading toward a restricted area of space which Tysess recognized as very close to the heart of the Federation, the commander said that he'd contact Starfleet Command and recommend they divert all ships to that sector. (PRO: "Mindwalk")

After immobilizing the Starfleet boarding party that intended to beam to the Protostar, the Diviner, Asencia and Drednok beamed there and quickly took control of the ship. After declaring that she wouldn't allow anything to stand in their way, the Vindicator and the Diviner went to the bridge where they found Gwyn. Concerned about his loyalty to his daughter, the Vindicator tricked the Diviner into checking on the living construct and locked him in the subdeck.

Armed with her own Vau N'Akat heirloom, the Vindicator engaged Gwyn in a vicious sword fight. Though Gwyn was able to land a blow that left a scar on the other woman's face, the Vindicator got the upper hand, while calling Gwyn a "mistake that shouldn't exist."

When the Diviner escaped, the Vindicator quickly used Gwyn as a hostage so she could control him. However, he used his mind to send Gwyn’s heirloom towards Asencia's face. Asencia countered this by catching it and throwing it straight into his abdomen, landing a fatal blow. She then activated the living construct and escaped with Drednok. (PRO: "Supernova, Part 1")

Return to Solum[]

In the following six months Asencia returned to her home planet - at the time, still a thriving civilization before the disastrous first contact with Starfleet - and gained the trust of the leading council, warning them about Gwyn's arrival. When Gwyn arrived, Asencia presented her as a puppet of the dangers that she had warned the council about and had Drednok show everyone an image of the future devastated by the Vau N'Akat Civil War. Unlike Asencia, who presented her younger self as proof of her claims to be a true Vau N'Akat, Gwyn had no such proof as she didn't exist in that time period. As the council tried to take her into custody, Gwyn managed to escape. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part II")

Gwyn later returned with Ilthuran, the present day version of the Diviner, and challenged Asencia to Va'Lu'Rah to prove herself as a true Vau N'Akat. As the two fought in a cavern where the Vau N'Akat heirlooms originated from, Gwyn argued that Asencia was terrified of a future that hadn't happened yet, but Asencia was certain that as long as the outsiders came to Solum, civil war was inevitable and she intended to make sure that the right side won. Unable to defeat the older and more experienced warrior, Gwyn attempted to escape and leave Asencia trapped in the cavern. However, Gwyn started phasing in and out of existence as a result of the timeline being altered by the Protostar launching with Chakotay and Adreek-Hu onboard, thus never making it to Tars Lamora. Gwyn fell back into the pit and was sealed in while Asencia emerged victorious. Taking both hers and Gwyn's heirlooms, Asencia was hailed as a true Vau N'Akat who would lead her people unto their greatest future. (PRO: "Who Saves the Saviors")

Shortly thereafter, Asencia urged Kathon and Borom to militarize Solum to prepare for an uncertain future and to face the enemies that faced it from without and within. The three spotted the Infinity launching from the cavern and Asencia instantly realized that Gwyn had survived and had been rescued by Starfleet. Asencia used this as proof of her claims of enemies amongst their people. (PRO: "Temporal Mechanics 101")

Defeat[]

As Asencia prepared to launch her attack against the Federation, the USS Voyager-A and the USS Protostar attacked Solum to stop her and use Asencia's temporal technology to send the Protostar back in time to Tars Lamora and repair the timeline. As Dal R'El, Jankom Pog, and Murf worked to open the wormhole, Asencia battled Gwyn and sent Drednok to stop the others, although Murf was able to destroy Drednok. Although Asencia's fleet was destroyed when the other wormholes closed on them after Dal and Jankom opened the one that they needed, Asencia nearly killed Gwyn in their fight before Ilthuran led the other Vau N'Akat -- including Asencia's own younger self -- in lending their strength to Gwyn. Gwyn defeated Asencia, reclaiming her heirloom and seemingly burning out Asencia's powers, causing her tendrils, eyes, and facial markings to take on a darkened look. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part I")

However, the Loom began attacking Solum as a result of the broken timeline. As she was taken into custody for her crimes, Asencia was left horrified by the consequences of her actions and the destruction she had brought to Solum which was only stopped when the Protostar was successfully sent back in time. After the timeline was repaired, personnel from Voyager dismantled Asencia's temporal technology and took it back to the ship with them. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part II")
