The Order launching ships

The Order launching starships after the Protostar

The Order was a Vau N'Akat organization dedicated to locating the USS Protostar and using the living construct onboard to destroy the Federation and prevent first contact between their peoples.

History[]

The Order was founded in the 25th century, after Captain Chakotay and Commander Adreek-Hu escaped captivity and launched the Protostar unmanned back through the same unstable wormhole that had previously brought them to Solum. With no more than a 1% chance of finding the Protostar again, the Order launched the last of their fleet, one hundred Rev-12-type starships, into the wormhole to spite the odds and complete their mission. Each ship was crewed by a single soldier, who abandoned their previous identity to the cause, and a Drednok. Most of the ships were destroyed when the wormhole collapsed, but the Diviner and the Vindicator survived. The former established a slave camp on Tars Lamora to reclaim the Protostar, but a group of slaves discovered the ship and commandeered it in order to escape; the latter disguised herself as a Trill and infiltrated the USS Dauntless as a member of the crew, Ensign Asencia. (PRO: "Lost and Found", "Preludes")

The soldiers of the Order were forbidden from creating offspring in the past, but the Diviner defied this rule to create his daughter Gwyndala in 2366, as he feared he would die before finding the Protostar, and if he failed the Order would be meaningless. (PRO: "Kobayashi")

Although the Vindicator successfully triggered the living construct, the Order's plan to use it to destroy the Federation was foiled when the Protostar's crew destroyed their ship. In the process, the Vindicator killed the Diviner, leaving her as the sole surviving member of the Order. (PRO: "Supernova, Part 1", "Supernova, Part 2")

The Vindicator later took over the reign of Solum in the past and became its dictator, but she was overthrown by the Uprising, which included both her younger self and the Diviner's younger self. In the process, the Vindicator triggered the very civil war that she was trying to prevent, but it was brought to a peaceful resolution with the help of the Protostar's crew and the USS Voyager-A. The Order's goal of saving Solum was ultimately achieved with the planet making peaceful first contact with the Federation, this time knowing the wonders and dangers that the universe held and what could happen to their planet. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part I", "Ouroboros, Part II")

According to StarTrek.com, the Order was the governing body of the Vau N'Akat. [1]
