Federation fleet prepares to engage Dominion fleet

Fleet was the term used to describe a group of vessels working, fighting or traveling together. The term could be used both in times of war and peace. It could be applied both to ships on planetary bodies of water and spacecraft. In the latter case, the terms star fleet or space fleet could be used.

During the Klingon Second Empire, Chancellor Mow'ga ordered an entire fleet of Klingon warships to invade and conquer the Breen homeworld. The fleet never returned and was never heard from again. (DS9: "'Til Death Do Us Part")

A joint fleet of 128 starships, led by Enterprise NX-01 under Jonathan Archer in 2154 and composed of Vulcan, Andorian, and Tellarite vessels, was used to create a massive sensor net to track down and neutralize a Romulan drone ship that was destabilizing the region. (ENT: "The Aenar")

In Melakon's 2268 Final Decision speech, he revealed that a space fleet was on its way toward Zeon, consisting of both manned and unmanned weapons. (TOS: "Patterns of Force")

In 2366, top priority orders from Starfleet required the fastest ship in the fleet, the USS Enterprise-D, to take Tam Elbrun, a mission specialist, as a passenger. (TNG: "Tin Man")

In 2368, the USS Enterprise-D led a fleet of at least twenty Starfleet ships to the Klingon-Romulan border. Their mission was to establish a tachyon detection grid to detect the cloaked Romulan ships entering Klingon space with supplies for the House of Duras. (TNG: "Redemption II")

In 2371, a joint Romulan-Cardassian fleet fought the Dominion in the Battle of the Omarion Nebula. (DS9: "The Die is Cast")

During the Dominion War, Starfleet was organized into several numbered fleets. (DS9: "A Time to Stand") The Jem'Hadar, Cardassians, and Breen also utilized large fleets during the Dominion War. (DS9: "What You Leave Behind")

In 2379, a notable Federation star fleet was Star Fleet Battle Group Omega. (Star Trek Nemesis)
