"Ask."
―Marda Ro and the human[1]

A human lived during the High Republic Era. Around 382 BBY, he was on a space station near the moon Pantora and saw a pair of Evereni. Around a year later, he was present in a public house in the oldest settlement on the planet Dantooine and sat at a table with a Rodian when the Evereni pirate leader Marda Ro visited the public house during her search for others of her species. When she questioned him about where to find Evereni, he reluctantly told her about the two Evereni he had seen near Pantora. Later, Ro mentioned him in a message she recorded for her descendants, which her great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to by 252 BBY.

Biography[]

"Have you encountered others like me? Where would you go to look for my kind?"
"I wouldn't!"
"I agree with my friend."
―Marda Ro, a Rodian, and the human[1]

Around 382 BBY,[2] the human was on a space station near[1] the moon[3] Pantora, where he saw a pair of Evereni. Around a year later, he sat at a table with a Rodian in a public house in the oldest settlement on the planet Dantooine. The pair were drinking in the public house when Marda Ro—the Evereni[1] founder of a pirate group who would eventually become the Nihil[4]—visited it during[1] her[5] search for others of her species. During the human's conversation with his Rodian companion, his gaze kept drifting toward Ro, who took notice. Prompted by Ro's questioning, the human and his Rodian companion agreed that they would not look for Evereni, but the human eventually recounted his encounter with the species around a year before. He then tipped his blaster up to signal that he was done talking, and Ro left the public house.[1]

She later mentioned the human in a message she recorded for her descendants while recounting her visit to the public house.[1] By 252 BBY,[6] during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her journal, including the message where the human was mentioned.[5]

Personality and traits[]

"He knew what I am. He was not afraid. He was not eager, either."
―Marda Ro, in her journal[1]

The human had dark eyes and pale skin. His cheeks were painted with faint glitter that Ro found nice. He was familiar with the Evereni and did not like the species; however, he was not afraid of them.[1]

Equipment[]

"He had a blaster in his hand."
―Marda Ro's journal[1]

The human possessed a blaster that he held during his conversation with Ro and used to signify that he was done with their conversation.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The human appeared in a flashback in the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," written by Tessa Gratton and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[1]

  2. "A Closed Fist Has No Claws" establishes that Marda Ro visited Dantooine around a year after taking possession of the Gaze Electric, an event that Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates to 382 BBY. Therefore, Ro's trip to Dantooine must have occurred around 381 BBY. For the human aboard the space station off Pantora to have seen Evereni around a year prior, those events must have happened around 382 BBY.

"The Lie" chapter in The High Republic: Eye of the Storm 1, which includes Shalla Ro's death, features Asgar Ro's ascension to Eye of the Nihil, an event dated to 252 BBY by Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia.
