"No admittance without clearance."
"I have officer class C."
"Now, please."
―Tytan Latimer and Tala Durith — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

Tytan Latimer was a human who served as a security guard in Fortress Inquisitorius on the ocean moon Nur by 9 BBY. The lead security on his level, Latimer held the rank of lieutenant. The officer operated a security scanner and stood at ease when the Inquisitor Third Sister passed through. Later on, Latimer stopped the Imperial Captain Tala Durith when she tried to pass through, demanding her identification. Latimer inspected her code cylinder and found that Nur was not Durith's sector. However, Durith pressured Latimer into letting her through regardless by threatening to report him to the Grand Inquisitor for insolence and claiming she was working with classified information.

Biography[]

"Is there a problem?"
"This isn't your sector. I can't let you through."

During the time of the Galactic Empire, Tytan Latimer[2] served as an Imperial security guard[1] by 9 BBY[3] and held the rank of lieutenant. Latimer operated at Fortress Inquisitorius, the headquarters of the Empire's Jedi-hunting group—the Inquisitorius—on the ocean moon of Nur in the Outer Rim Territories. There, he[2] was the lead security for his level of the fortress, below the sea level of Nur, and stood at the control station[1] of a DeTECHt model security scanner at the end of a[2] grand concourse[4] that scanned for possible threats like weapons, bombs, and hazardous materials.[2] One day that year, the Inquisitor Third Sister arrived at Fortress Inquisitorius and passed through the security scanner while Latimer was on duty, the officer standing at ease at the scanner's control station as she passed.[5]

Sometime later, Latimer was posted at the gate when the Imperial officer Tala Durith arrived at the fortress, secretly working with the fugitive Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi to break out Leia Organa,[1] the ten-year-old daughter of Imperial Senator Bail Organa,[6] who had been imprisoned by the Third Sister. As Durith approached the security scanner, Latimer asked for identification. Durith ignored Latimer, so he left his terminal and told her she needed clearance, his visitor replying that she had officer class C.[1]

Latimer persisted and took Durith's code cylinder for inspection and found that Nur was not in her sector. The security guard thus informed Durith that he could not let her through, only for her to ask about his position and assert herself as his commanding officer. She further claimed that she would inform the Grand Inquisitor of his insolence as her supposed mission involved classified information. Latimer stiffened and swallowed, resigning to Durith's demands and letting the officer pass through the gate while he stood at ease.[1]

Personality and traits[]

"I am the lead security on this level."
"Then I'm your commanding officer, and you will address me as 'Sir.'"
"Yes, sir, of course."

Obi-Wan Kenobi Part IV

Latimer at his control station

A human, Tytan Latimer had light skin, blue eyes, and ginger hair. He was assertive of the identification protocols to Tala Durith, persistently refusing to let her pass without clearance. He was also submissive to higher-ranking individuals, immediately complying with Durith's correction to call her "sir" and stiffening when she implied repercussions from the Grand Inquisitor.[1]

Equipment[]

Latimer wore a black Imperial officer's uniform, including an Imperial kepi with an officer's disk, black gloves and boots, and a black belt with compartments and a silver buckle featuring an officer's disk. The security guard bore two code cylinders, slotted above each breast, and a rank insignia plaque on his left breast displaying three blue tiles in a horizontal row.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Tytan Latimer first appeared in "Part III"[5] of the live-action Disney+ television series Obi-Wan Kenobi, released on June 1, 2022.[7] He was portrayed by actor Joss Glennie-Smith, who was not credited as the actor until the character's appearance in the following episode, "Part IV,"[1] released a week later.[7] The character's name was identified in Emily Shkoukani and Pablo Hidalgo's 2023 reference book, Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide.[2] The book was first published on November 2 of that year,[8] but a relevant extract identifying Latimer was previewed earlier in the year at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21.[9]

In one shot in "Part IV," an Imperial officer Fortress Inquisitorius with the same uniform as Latimer bar a differing rank plaque[1] is described to be wearing the "darker uniforms of non-commissioned officers" by the episode's audio description. It is unclear if this description also applies to Latimer.[4]
