Security scanners were a security device manufactured by DeTECHt for the purpose of detecting weaponry, bombs, hazardous materials, or other threats.[1] First created by 9 BBY,[2] they were utilized by the Galactic Empire during that same year in the Imperial Security Bureau's II-0810 Satellite Station.[4] Also in 9 BBY,[6] they were also utilized in the Fortress Inquisitorius on Nur.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

Security scanners first appeared in "Part IV," the fourth episode of the limited Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. They were first identified as security scanners in a Star Wars San Diego Comic-Con 2023 panel revealing information from the upcoming Star Wars Dawn of Rebellion The Visual Guide reference book, which will be released in 2023.[1] They originated in the Legends continuity in Alan Dean Foster's 1976 novelization of[7] the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[8]
